Re: BB King disappoints?
I went. Have to say - it was one of the strangest gigs I've ever been to. I'm a big fan of BB's, but that review is pretty close to the mark I think. There were some genuinely brilliant flourishes in there, but also quite a lot of awkward moments. He really did mix up his band's names. He really did...

Re: Should I gut and rebuild my 18watt?
It is indeed the ex-Mukuzi one. My understanding (albeit from the ever reliable Mukuzi himself) is that it is an 18watt lite circuit. The FB modded channel does indeed sound awesome. I dig the idea of pulling the whole board out and putting in a new circuit- particularly if you can keep the FB chan...

Re: Should I gut and rebuild my 18watt?
On the plus side I can probably pull the whole board out and install a new circuit. If I fail I'll just put the board back and bob's my cousin! Yep you're onto it, robert is indeed your aunties wife :) Seriously though, if it were me, I'd start with the 18watt lite, maybe do two channels of that, t...

Basil trannies? I did not know that. Interesting...
Yeah if it's PCB it's highly unlikely I'll mod anything unless it's a comonent value change...

Re: Should I gut and rebuild my 18watt?
I don't know about mukuzi, but it's ex Benderissimo. Not sure where he got it, but it could be one and the same.
I've never actually opened it up. I just assumed it was going to be turret. PCB would make modding it a no go. If that's the case I'll pull it right out and start over with turret.

Re: Should I gut and rebuild my 18watt?
I've heard the 18watt in general is difficult to get sounding good, due to the chassis design and the wire routing. Wasn't aware that there was an additional tweaking requirement with the TMB? What sort of tweaking? I'm not much of a fan of reverb, and if I add an effects loop that can always be a p...

Should I gut and rebuild my 18watt?
I have a Fuzziebro modded 18watt. It's the tremolo head version. Here are the modded features: The non-trem channel has been modded to be volume only, no tone The trem channel has been modded for depth It has a tube / ss rectification switch. The catch is, I've decided I really don't like the trem t...

Re: Low watt options
I had a really thorough blat on the Tweaker at the last gearfest. It does a pretty good job of a fender, marshal and vox. Really versatile in its range of sounds, but it's single channel, with no footswitch, so it's set and forget unless you want to be changing setup between songs. Would be interest...

Anyone who's ever been in the military will be familiar with this. Basically, things changing all the time and no idea what's going on.
Sucks to try and do business under those conditions.

Re: Vintage amps - favourite channels
I have two such amps: Marshall 18W Tremolo clone, Fuzziebro Modded. Fender 5E3 Tweed Deluxe Ceriatone. For the 18W, I never use the trem channel, even jumpered. It's just not my sound. The normal channel, however, is fantastic. Volume knob, plus nothing. I had this along yesterday - you should have ...

Re: Auckland Gearfest 5th September OFFICIALLY
My pick is the Tweaker. Very versatile, quite transparent, good touch, and the ability to do a respectable sounding version of fender, marshal and vox. Lots of switches for a small amp. Only 15 watts, but all my other amps are around that level and I would gig it. Might not have enough guts for hea...

Re: Auckland Gearfest 5th September OFFICIALLY
I had a jolly good time - good to meet a few more faces that I haven't seen before, and catch up with a few old ones. I had a bash on nearly everything in the non-stupidly-loud room, my comments: Amps: My pick is the Tweaker. Very versatile, quite transparent, good touch, and the ability to do a res...

Re: Auckland Gearfest 5th September...
I was keen on bringing the fuzziebro modded 36watt but don't think I'll have time to get the power tranny rewound by then :( but the bellbird will be there and probably the vibrolux and other assorted stuffs. I am looking forward to seeing those. If I manage to finally finish building the cab for m...
