Re: DiMarzio Virtual Vintage. Custard turned to trifle. Yumm

Last night, in a fug of weary dejection, I emailed DiMarzio tech support. This came back 10 hours later. "If you wired all 3 pickups identically and the neck and bridge pickups are performing properly, it is possible the middle pickup is defective. I can appreciate the difficulty in returning ...

Re: MXR Noise Clamp - opinions?

Keen to see how you get on, Mogwai. I've got heaps of noise in my recording setup - it's not just the Blackstar, but I have a tube DI box adding to it and possibly cheap power-supplies as well. Plus I just installed some high output pickups which has made things worse. Interested to see what helps a...

Re: guitar set up in akl

I've been doing some experiments today, and it's amazing the tonal differences materials and fractions of a millimetre make. Were you adjusting the action and intonation back to the same measurements each time? If not those indirect changes are the more likely to be the source of the tonal effects ...

Re: guitar set up in akl

I've been doing some experiments today, and it's amazing the tonal differences materials and fractions of a millimetre make. Slice of business card: wasn't enough angle Ever so slightly thicker slice of card (we are taking fractions here): too much angle and killed bass and sustain. Square of sandpa...

Re: guitar set up in akl

... This is the tip of an ugly iceberg of untruths that fuel the internet. I don't have time to unveil it all, but suffice to say that the difference between bolt-on and set necks is more to do with the difference between the rest of the guitars in question - ie Fenders vs Les Pauls. Apparently Fen...

Re: guitar set up in akl

Ha ha. I've shimmed plenty in the past, it just seems this particular one is a bit temperamental - looses bass and some sustain.

Re: guitar set up in akl

Actually I'd like to know how to shim a neck without considerably altering the tone of the guitar. Probably outside the scope of your usual setup though. If you used threaded inserts in the neck instead of screws you'd get a better connection with the body, might make all the difference, or shave t...

Which ones do they have on special?
Heaps, but not all - best to look at the site. I got a PAF Pro and a Tonezone.

Actually, this description reminds me of what I don't like about EMGs. Might re-think what I need.

I'm thinking about getting some of these to chuck into a guitar - the only demos I can find are guys trying to be Dimebag... I'm more a heavy rock guy (not metal). Are they good for that? What's a good model? I don't need tons of output though - I see you can get them from BL himself, or BL USA (his...

Re: My new band/group/thingy (contains ambient beat music)

Had another blat on this track this morning. Personally, I love the structure and everything as it is. It's not obvious, and is a great little journey. Certainly feels shorter than 10mins!
