Re: where have all the fancy amps gone
Well to summarise, fancy amps turned digital, not all cracked up to be, hard to buy in living crisis, all owned by Conway, run out of parts, temptresses for playing with ones 9 lber and something about crunchy pants. A worthy discussion, thanks all. I'll keep my eyes out to match the swart and redpl...

Re: where have all the fancy amps gone
… a Chinese built Vox Ac15 TVHW head and cab Oh man, that’s one of my favourite amps. I’ve owned two of the combo version, but would love to track down a head version. Yeah I think they sound great. I lusted after a tophat supreme 16 as a boutique ef86 option, got one after many years and still pre...

Re: where have all the fancy amps gone
Oh yes The Amp Shop was a great loss and wasn't there a store in Wellington that stocked Victoria amps? Amps (and guitars) sure have got expensive so fewer probably coming in and NZ mainstream music shops selections can be pretty bland. Might have to moved to an era of commissioned builds. This lame...

Re: Current cost of a refret
cheers for all the responses folks. $600 seems a little high by the sounds of it - luthier is Kenny Duncan, new to Dunedin, so don't know much about his work but he seems to have credentials. I believe he was in Wellington originally? Guitar is an early 70s tele that I'm rather fond of and a little ...

Re: Current cost of a refret
Love it.The other questions would be :
How much do you love that neck?
Is it a bolt on.
Is it vintage.
Bolt on.
Vintage.
extra care required for vintage eh?
Lacquer was quite a bit more, but I imagine that's a job to get just so.
anyone had neck without lacquer?

Current cost of a refret
Hey all - wondering what the cost of refretting a neck is stinging people at the moment. I have a maple neck that needs done - quote is $600 unfinished. Love the neck but wondering about buying new neck instead given $$. Thoughts?

Re: Princeton Reverb Reissue vs Blues Jr vs DRRI etc...
Hey ant, without redirecting the thread I think I can still lug 20kg :) love to see a pic, and talk a little more about it - sent you a pm. Re the reverb i find a good tweed, like the victoria, has a shimmer about em that means I don't miss the reverb at all. Actually the bassman does that too - may...

Re: Princeton Reverb Reissue vs Blues Jr vs DRRI etc...
I agree the tweeds sound fuller. I have a victoria fender deluxe clone (20112) and it is fat. Have had an urge for some blackface (purely wanting what I do not have probably) and tried the PR reissue at the rockshop. Seemed sharp and harsh to my ears after a few years of playing with tweed, or maybe...

Re: trace Elliott speed twin
I'm interested in anyone's knoweldge of these amps too. The only trace elliot I've had a go on was a little velocette?? about ten years ago. I can remember being pretty impressed tho' my tastes have refined a little since then. Am thinking about moving on my peavey classic 30+ extension cab, and tho...
Re: swart
only seeems to be when the guitar plugged into splitter - I am going through an old analog multi effects unit - also tried it through a delay with two outs - same thing. If amps just powered up with no guitar in = no hum.
Re: swart
Thanks again for the tips. Yep hum is definintely the enemy. Any idea how to source the radial stuff? I rang the rock shop and they told me they didn't have anything and instead to attach a wire between the chassis of both amps as a way to alleviate the problem. Didn't seem to work and sounded a lit...
