Re: Recommend me a 2x12 cabinet

For high gain type stuff, I'd recommend you try out the Mesa 2x12s, or a Bogner 2x12. Mind you, I didn't think the Marshall 2x12s were too bad. Maybe hit up Ryan at Custom Audio Boutique? He has some really great gear, could probably recommend a really good 2x12.

Re: Doing a guitar solo....

Or you could do the Andreas Kisser thing and just shred the rhythm piece two octaves up :D

I'm not going to comment much... my soloing ability is like a child's fingerpainting. It's only 'art' to the people who don't want to hurt your feelings.

Re: Agile Intrepid 8 String Guitars

They also do a fretless version of that Agile 8-string... imagine that. Oh and it's two lower strings, most of the time anyway. I have heard of having one lower, one higher. Would be great for those 'ice-pick in your ear' solos, having one higher. There's an Ltd FM-408 in the Rockshop on K-Road at t...

Re: I dealt with Dominic26 and only got slightly burnt.

Yeah hannahb6 is quite frequent in the comments field of guitar related stuff on Trademe. I'm not sure but I think it might be one of the guys from Backyard Burial.

Good score on the GMW by the way man, looks impressive :)

Re: Amp issues - again...

Well thanks for the info guys, but it seems like the guitar is the main culprit in the setup situation. Tried a friend's guitar and there was no loss of any kind. So I replaced the volume pot in the guitar with an old Jackson one I had about the place, and it seemed to fix the issue. But the volume ...

Re: Amp issues - again...

Okay well I think I've identified the problem... it's not the amp at all! Or the pedals as it seems at this stage. It's the guitar I think. I tried to turn down the volume on the guitar, turns out I can't. The volume won't go down. Which makes me think the volume pot is busted. I know I shouldn't ha...

Re: Amp issues - again...

Suggest you try it before assuming anything. What happens with only the guitar plugged in? Do both channels then behave themselves? I have. Guitar straight into the amp and the pedals off is the same thing - the amp is fine, both channels. It's only when I turn on the pedals that I lose volume, but...

Re: Amp issues - again...

Surely just plugging your guitar straight into the amp should answer that last question? If the amp works fine then it's your pedals, if not it's your guitar or amp. That would be the obvious answer, it seems. But with it only being a problem on a single channel? Surely if the pedals were affecting...

Re: Amp issues - again...

Man, why did you downgrade like that? Well had some big ass bills, couldn't get the money any other way... I miss that amp like you wouldn't believe! There's a lot of love/hate shit when it comes to DRs, but it was good for me. Give it a good few minutes to warm up, run it with a boost and you're a...

Re: Amp issues - again...

Man I went from a Dual Rec to a Marshall 8040... it just about made me want to change to acoustic. At this stage I'm looking for an excuse to set it on fire. Or waiting for it to set itself on fire.

Re: Amp issues - again...

I dont know if this helps, I had an 8040 that I thought had a valve issue. I cant remember what it did exactly but from memory it did have an issue similar to yours.I tried replacing the ECC83, which diddnt hel. Somehow I discovered if I bridged the fx loop it solved the problem in a "that wil...

Re: Amp issues - again...

Solid state, but uses a 12AX7 on the gain channel... which made me think it's a solid state issue. But I'm no amp tech. And honestly I wouldn't know if it had been doing this the whole time for two reasons, first being my compressor is always on. Second being I don't often use the clean channel :lol...

Amp issues - again...

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my Marshall 8040 combo. I decided for the first time in a while to try running my sound with no pedals switched on; gain channel was fine (although a bit gutless), but the clean channel was incredibly loud. As soon as I switch a pedal on, the volume drops by at lea...
