Re: String gauge - does size matter?
Is anyone running a hybrid set, like 9-46? I quite like the thicker low end from the usual 10-46s, but could do with a bit of an easier time now I'm trying to do more bending... lack of practice yeah... but... I run 9-46 EBs on my Tele and SuperStrat. Used to on my Gibsons too. Dunno why I switched...

I use studio one. I like it a lot but I dont have much comparison to go by. It came with some hardware and I liked it enough to upgrade to thw full version.

Similar to the red channel dialled right up yep. EVH uses greenbacks so in to v30 you get that modern metal sound rather than the 80s metal/rock sound.

What are you recording? I found SM57s like a loud input, like a cranked guitar amp to get going. I found them quiet for voice. You otherwise you better have good mic preamps

Telecaster with 4-way. Just roll back the tone control and you're good for metal. I user CS Nocaster pickups in mine and they cover everything.
Re: Cool shit
I wouldn't say it's "100%" better . It was still a nice R7 beforehand. Makes me wonder whats under mine, but I'd rather drop the money required to refinish on a another guitar haha.

A venue in Wellington has been on the cards for a while. Lester was such a shit mayor; he just sat on his hands and couldn't make up his mind up on anything.

I've tried the old Dual tone, which I suppose is now the Black Magick, both being based off the Jimmy Page 1x12 mod? It was really really good. You could crank it right up and it never was too loud, just more awesome.

Re: GUITAR: oh, cliche topic - what picks do you use!
Useless trivia: I flip the pick over between strums sometimes. I have no idea why, or when I started doing it. But I caught myself doing it years ago at a gig and gradually realised I kind of do it unconsciously. Weirdo. I do that. But mostly to change the wear on the pick. I use a lot of angled at...

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
If I was in highschool learning guitar and was told we were getting some Gibsons I'd be pretty freaking excited, and equally disappointed upon learning they'd be Firebird X's.
