Re: NGD! More Tele love.
Cheers dude, yeah I thought it was bridge/neck/really dark neck or something for the original wiring, which I think is what that Fender diagram is showing. Although I thought the 'dark' option had something to do with a capacitor or something that did something a bit different to just killing the to...

Re: NGD! More Tele love.
I think it's the modern. I was hoping it was original style since I've never heard it before. Can you reverse it?

Re: NGD! More Tele love.
Picked it up for $1700, which I thought was decent. It's a solid gat and plays really well, and it's one of those guitars I just want to keep picking up which can hopefully only be a good thing for the skills!mr_sooty wrote:Nice work mate, how much did you snag that for? Re: NGD! More Tele love.
There is such an explosion of good taste happening at the moment. :D Now get to work and knock the shine off it!  You read my mind. This will definitely be a keeper and I mean to wear it out to get that authentic relic'd look. Picked it up yesterday and played for about 12 hours straight...

NGD! More Tele love.
After much Sooty-ing about what to get after missing out on what I was originally aiming for, I snatched this up off TM. A US '52 RI Tele. It is glorious:

Re: Gibson LP Studio 50's tribute
Resonance is good. I guess it's just like any other guitar/amp, so I'll have to wait and see how it goes on Thursday.

Re: Gibson LP Studio 50's tribute
Played a 60s tribute this week, same thing with a skinnier neck. The one I tried was pretty dead sounding. Not a lot of sustain or resonance for a Les Paul. The overall tone was nice but once you hit a note the guitar didn't really give much from then on like a nice LP does. I reckon try before you...

Re: Gibson LP Studio 50's tribute
How much of the noise issue was due to your high gain rig? I run a pretty low gain setup and I'm currently borrowing Sabbath_Bloody_Sabbath's Epi '56 Gold Top with P-90's in it and it's pretty quiet.

Re: Gibson LP Studio 50's tribute
ask slash-ed he has the one that most of us want   Just quietly... I don't any more  Someone else on here now does ;) They are really cool guitars. P90s are full of rawk, but with my rig and the level of gain that I use, I found them quite noisy. Love the satin finish. Feels a little...

Re: Gibson LP Studio 50's tribute
I had mate and really still do want it, but after finally getting the money together he no longer wants to sell it. Absolutley gutted but can't really blame him I guess.Capt. Black wrote:Changing your mind again Machiney? I thought you had booked in at the Sheraton!

Gibson LP Studio 50's tribute
So, what's the general consensus on these? They look alright at a glance, thinking of getting one.

I suppose that advice would extend to taking it onboard aircraft? At any rate, strange that you can't seem to buy a case separately.Hot_Grits wrote:Personally I reckon it's not a good choice for the old 'back of the van with everyone else's shit' haulage option.
Re: NEPD!
Pretty much any old delay can do a convincing slapback. The Fab Echo I had was pretty good, especially for ~$35, but it was a little bit of a tone suck. Had this kind of distant, airy sound that I didn't really like. I really just wanted a tape echo to complete my set of essential '50s studio gear;...

Re: How Good Should You Be Before You Care About Tone?
I agree we're treading close to circular argument territory, and I know where you're coming from. I think at the end of the day we can all pretty much agree on what constitutes a beautiful clean tone or an awesome big fuck off wound up gain tone. I do believe there exists that level of common opini...
