Wanted: Bass player in Auckland

We're currently a group of 4 guys in our late twenties - mid thirties. We play/write music somewhere in the ballpark of Maccabees, Foals, The National, and have done so at a fairly casual pace the last few years. We're looking to shake things up a little and add a 5th member, preferably a bass playe...

Re: NZG bands band together in Sept!

God damn Ed your band kicks ass. I don't normally even like the genre in the slightest, but the sheer epicness gave me no choice but to log in to let you know.

Re: My bands Debut Single - Please have a listen if you're i

As Captain said, very killswitch engage, with a little less blues and a little more metal.

I enjoyed almost all of it a lot.

The second half of each vocal phrase in Pt II. really sounds off to me. Struggling to tell if the vocals are off key, or if the harmony with the growling vocal is clashing.

Re: New Opeth

Just listened to the whole thing, got through it in one sitting without getting bored so that's +. Can't think of many albums I've managed to do that with.

I enjoyed how eclectic it was, probably only liked about 50% of it, but as a whole think it is pretty damn good.

Re: Power Amps?

I have an el34 100/100 (flagship Marshall power amp) that I may be looking at selling. Doesn't look like I'm likely to play guitar in a band any time soon so I really can't justify still owning it, along with my triaxis and mesa cab. Amps are in practically brand new condition (bought them a couple ...

Re: New Opeth

I quite like it, but it certainly sounds nothing like Opeth as we knew them. It sounds like less cheesy Dream Theatre. Blackwater Park to me has always felt the most complete picture of what they were about. Deliverance and Damnation were both really good albums. Ghost Reveries did nothing for me an...

Jansen Bassman service

Suggestions on the best place to take a Jansen Bassman 50 for tube replacement/other repairs if it ever needs them?

Re: Mix advice/opinions please

I have found that VST plugins have very different dynamic response to the modules on electronic kits - in other words if the electronic kit sounded correct in terms of dynamics, it'll likely be completely wrong when you put that midi performance through the plugin. Best thing to do is use it as a ve...

Re: Mix advice/opinions please

Second revision sounds much better 8).

The guitars are quite well recorded this time imo, next priority would be sorting out some decent sounding drums.

I like your voice.

Re: Wot, no BDO love?

Short form review of the main stage, deftones onwards. (There wasn't anything else worth losing my spot to see) Deftones: Very loose live. Lupe Fiasco: His name is at least appropriate - backing track failure x3. His drummer was rather good though. Wolfmother: It's great they picked up a 4th member ...

Re: Getting HD500 live output to sound as good as USB record

I have a similar problem with my X3 Live.

USB/SPDIF > XLR > 1/4inch outputs for sound quality. Each of those is quite a big difference.

Re: NAD - Axe-Fx

Definitely sounding bigger. Always room to improve production but it serves the song better now.

Actually reminds me a bit of Porcupine Tree.
Porcupine Tree meets Lamb of God.
Awesome.

I actually kinda like what the kick does at that volume. Has a pulsating tremolo like effect.
