Re: Weber..... WOW!
This all sounds really interesting. I have to confess I made what may be a stoooopid purchase: a Fender Supersonic 60 head and twin 12 cab. Looks sooooo sexy on stage. Cleans to die for. And the Bassman blooms and roars. Still unsure about the "burn" channel. But it's got loads of promise....

New series to replace the Highway 1 series apparently. Low cost way to call it U.S. built. Check the low price point at http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 0785584171

Re: First valve amp build
Great sounding little amp. Huge sound, I was fortunate to have a jam with critter a couple of weeks ago. Really cool look to the cabinet as well. Saw the 18 watter in progress. Wish I could tackle something like that. Well done.

Re: Anyone played a Martin Backpacker?
Had one. Sold it. I bought it because I was spending several nights a week in hotel rooms and missed playing; it fits in the overhead bin in a plane and you can satisfy that craving to play. Sounds like cardboard, but you don't buy it for the tone. You have to use the strap even for sitting because ...

Re: How many guitars do you need?
I have lots. And I need another one. I haven't got a bach, or a boat, I don't p.ss money away going to clubs or buying takeaways, my car is 15 years old. I'm happy with my priorities. Guitars to me are art that I can interact with. I keep them out so I can enjoy the way they look and sound any time ...

Gasing for one of these : Fender American Deluxe Strat HSS http://www.sweetwater.com/guitargallery/electric/custom/sUS11011963/ They seem versatile and reasonably priced. I'm always paranoid about how such an item would be handled in transit though? Fenders travel really well in international shipp...

Re: How Good Should You Be Before You Care About Tone?
+2 on Seasick Steve - his dilapidated gear makes me embarrassed to have good gear and never sound as good. BTW, re gear - I agree a guitar that is physically enjoyable to play is really important (unless you're Jack White and claim you want to struggle to play...). I also have had really good guitar...

Re: Covers band rig advice
My free advice is worth what you pay for it. A clean(ish) platform that provides headroom, a hairy-ness pedal, tuner and guitar volume are probably 97% of what one needs. I like a single coil (strat) for its ability to cut through, and a pedal(s) can fatten it up if you need to. "A strat player...

Re: Has anyone imported amps from the state
I brought a couple of Marshall combos in from Canada. They were manufactured with power transformers that had a coil tap for EU/NA voltages, so it was a minor job for the local tech to switch them over for NZ voltages. Non-technically speaking, you should be prepared to pay for customs clearance cha...
