Re: Recommendations to service a Mesa mk IV?

If it's just cleaning the pots you can do that yourself with great ease as mesa pots are all wired off board rather than soldered on like Marshall or Peavey. Contact cleaner in the slot, give the pot a few turns with some gusto, then some electrical lubricant and you're done. What else do you need?...

Re: Recommendations to service a Mesa mk IV?

I think Clarry serviced this about 15 years ago. Pots are scratchy and dropping volume. In theory they should be capable of a clean but the Mesa amps are nightmares and the mark IVs no less so. I also don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on someone who will be learning on the job. Any recommenda...

Re: IK Multimedia ToneX

I've been having a play with profiles from ToneNet, and man there's some great stuff on there, also some junk. I usually prefer proper miked up rigs over the direct ones that need IRs added. The Marshall stuff is bang on, and dare I say it, better than a lot of the best Marshall profiles I've tried...

Re: Late 70s Strats - thoughs?

Every guitar is unique. I’ve got a 76 strat I bought through Grant. Had it re-fretted by Ramsay. Plays wicked. Sounds wicked (the pickups are very aggressive). Weighs a shitload.

Re: IK Multimedia ToneX

I got the tonex - it's pretty awesome! Definitely liking some of the tone models; the "Overdrive Special" is based on a Dumble and it sounds fantastic. I find the software so confusing to use though. Just editing a preset to add reverb is quite an ordeal. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong? Here'...

Re: What a lot of us have been wanting from Kemper..

I’m overseas at present but when I have a chance I’ll let you know my highly subjective views of Kemper Profiler vs Tonex + HX Stomp vs Kemper Player vs Helix LT as I have all. But in a nutshell: - Tonex could sound and feel better than Kemper especially with the HX stomp effects (I have Tonex in th...

Re: What a lot of us have been wanting from Kemper..

What’s the verdict on the KEMPER Player? Who’s got one in NZ? Have been considering buying another amp I don’t need, thinking I might be better to look into the KEMPER Player. Looks like it’s just over 1k landed? It'd be around 1350 landed (customs fees). I got one. So far I'm really enjoying it! H...

Re: Amp issue - help needed please!

I suspect a bit of opening up and reconnecting fixed something that was dodgy. I don’t care - so long as it works :)

Re: Amp issue - help needed please!

Thanks for the help. I replaced the cap and touched nothing else on the basis that the less I touch, the less I might break! But seems to be fixed now :)

Re: Amp issue - help needed please!

This is the now removed cap. If I test it using my cheap jaycar multimeter it gives no reading (neither short nor anything). It is C102 on the board and the schematic I’ve looked at for the V3M. I think it goes from lug 1 (sleeve?) to c102 to QC2 ground which is consistent with both the schematic an...
