There is nothing wrong with liking parts that give that little bit extra and even paying a small premium for them is OK. I think its crazy the money people pay for vintage PAFs and PAF clones. These DiMarzio's are great and are close enough for me. This Les Paul is pretty much completed for me now. I replaced the hardware with Tone Pros and the wiring with RS guitar works vintage kit. It plays and sounds great for a 2...

I have a set of SD Slash Sig pups in my LP Standard but want to swap them out for some DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary pups. Where is the best place to get them from in NZ ?

The Slash pups will be up for sale eventually, they sound great but are bit of a one-trick pony.

Have you ever tried Bill Lawrence L500 pickups ? they are apparently crystal clear and show up all your picking faults too. The reason I ask is I have a set and was thinking of giving them a go in my '91 LP Standard which currently has SD Slash sigs in it. I can't make my mind up about the Slash pup...

Yes it is, they are collectable like old cars, but not necessarily any better than modern ones and sometimes worse

I often think those that think the PAF is a mystical pup are the ones that were daft enough to spend $5000 on them. I bet none of them could pass a blind testing.

I'm interested in this argument....anyone else got a view? Maybe PAF refers to tone now more than anything? When someone says "I want a PAF"...what they mean is they want a bright sounding humbucker of medium output, not the muddy type or high output. PAF - "like" pups... Walkma...
