Re: Mesa Boogie Mk VII

As a previous user of the Mark V, there are a few puzzling decisions in here for me: - No overall Master volume pretty much renders this amp all but unusable imo. The three channels of a Mark series are already such a balancing act without having to worry about matching volumes at a gig - The more m...

Re: Recommend me a practice amp for hard rock and metal

Opsguy is selling a THR10 on TM Cheers. I think a Katana or something like this will actually be a turn off to him. He’s not interested in exploring lots of sounds- just wants to turn on, set the gain where he wants it, and play. Too many options just makes him disinterested. He also doesn’t want a...

Re: Recommend me a practice amp for hard rock and metal

No surprises coming from me but imo a Katana 50 will see him way further along his journey than pretty much any of the other amps that you mentioned.

Gibsons = Peaty Scotch. Sometimes it is truly sublime, sometimes it’s licking a burnt whale

Re: New Metallica

Kirk cribbed half the licks in that solo from Master of Puppets haha. Maybe they're trying to connect with the Stranger Things kids who've just discovered them. Solid thrashy track but generationally I've always preferred the Black/Load/Reload era Metallica over thrashy Metallica so my opinion proba...

Re: Now vs Then - do you see progress?

This isn't so much about guitar playing specifically, but any skill in and around you as a musician that you've honed and improved on over the years. I found the opposite! I was sorting through some old files on my pc and found some recordings I did working on my vibrato. I was surprised at how goo...

Thanks JB! I've never been the sole singer in a band before so this is yet another new musical challenge I've set for myself. Fingers crossed that goes well, haha

Now vs Then - do you see progress?

This isn't so much about guitar playing specifically, but any skill in and around you as a musician that you've honed and improved on over the years. I put together a video for my new band recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4Zk23VCK10 And I realised that I had a very direct comparison of my ...

Re: Is Chorus back?

From what I gather, early 90s Zakk Wylde was wah, rotovibe, SD-1 and a Boss chorus, so I'm contractually obliged to be in favour of it. Sure was! CH-1 and then CE-5 I believe. Indeed, you'll notice that the MXR Zakk chorus that appears after that era has suspiciously identical controls to a CE-5 :l...

The funny thing is that I've always found that a "normal" guitar chorus pedal works much better with bass than a specifically bass tuned one. They just seem to help the bass cut through better.
