Re: Clapton

He's the only one of the bunch who can improvise a solo of any length which sounds like it was worked out beforehand. The trouble is that he almost always sounds like it was worked out beforehand, largely in the sense that he usually sounds bland and derivative. There are plenty of examples of Hend...

Re: Clapton

Most of his original stuff on the live album 24 Nights and on Slowhand I can bear to listen to. In fact some of it is excellent, in the former case mainly because of the quality of the keyboard player. Otherwise I have trouble relating to his music.

Re: Favourite Amp Company?

Peavey for me! The 5150 is the bees knees I could live with just a Classic 30. Has to be the old aestetics though! I've had a C30 for several years now. The only thing I don't like is it's weight. I have it on the channel that bypasses the tone controls and have never been game to max out the volum...

Re: 1964 FB III meets Router

When you said balanced Grant, did you mean lighter front/neck weight, or pickups? Actually, very much both. The guitar sits to the right quite a bit and fret access is very much like a Les Paul. And the mix of the old Gibson split pole Pat No., and the Shaw is perfect. That's great. They are one of...

I didn't realise he'd worked with those guys, he is good. View from 7th Heaven on the above album (youtube) showed his playing off well.

Re: Lonnie Knight died recently

Hi jvpp. Structure in the sense of the dynamics. Slow build ups as the chord structure develops followed by let downs in intensity and tempo through each of the verses. Each cycle builds on the previous one with the contrast between the tonalities and improvisational styles of the successive solo in...

Lonnie Knight died recently

Hi all. For those of you who know.this album https://www.discogs.com/Flim-The-BBs-Flim-The-BBs/release/2692237 I noticed that Lonnie Knight, guitarist, died recently. He's a bit obscure in our parts of the world, but Blue Noise off that album was a big influence on me in my 20s with respect to how t...

Re: What strings do you use and why? Plus Picks. Plus cables.

Strings- elixirs on all except the nylon acoustic, I like the brightness, else cobalt EBs if I see them, nice even tone across the strings. Sweat and Brisbane humidity kills normal EBs and d"adarios. The latter definitely last longer than slinkys. Picks- mostly fingers, but anything else from c...

Re: Post your tracks, recordings etc.

I guess At some point I just got sick of the stock sounds. I am pretty much in a rut of standard tonal/modal harmony though. That's how I thik of it, it's not really a genre thing. I just like sound. Been there a few times. Liking sound is what makes musicians tick so you're on a winner there, unle...

Keep it up, you have a left of centre sound, which is refreshing, and we have to flog our wares to the world somehow. That's why I'm on SoundCloud.
