The 'Importing Stuff from Overseas' Thread

I'm with MattAnt on this. I outfitted my whole studio with nothing bought locally. My problem was I couldn't find most of what I wanted and the stuff I did find was almost double the cost of what I paid. The exchange rate was much better when all this happened so.... Ebay was my main source with pay...

First build... Plexi?

You'll be fine. Just heed the warnings and do your research. You will need to know the basics. Things like Cap polarity and the voltages expected at various points in the amp to when it's complete. Be very thorough and as neat and organised as possible. I'd recommend a kit. I've built quite a bit of...

Need a snake-Lower Hutt/Wellington.

I'd tend to use a ribbon or condenser for distance mics . A trick I use is to walk around the space while the rig is being played and stick a mic where you like the sound best. Audio hire companies are a good source for snakes and mics too for loan. Oceania here in AK has a great selection of mics f...

Guess the amp vs digital

Lots of valid opinions. For me it a matter of the experience. Digital makes me lazy and takes the fun out of the process. Much rather be playing with amps, tubes, speakers, mics, placement etc. Same with synths. Analogue synths, modulars are a whole lot more fun that the soft synths. With skill anyt...

Amps and room acoustics

I'm keen to see how this works for you. Was thinking of doing the same. Filling the cavity behind the frame and front insulation with pink stuff adds to the absorption. Apparently leaving it in the packaging works fine.

Amps and room acoustics

Yup same problem with the corners and bass buildup. More so at the back of the room. Volume of amps will have an effect. More sound more reflections and more buildup. Your idea if temporary gobos will help lots.

I totally feel your pain. Treatment is so important. You can never go wrong with bass trapping. Also diffusion can work wonders alongside absorption. I have my studio dead at the front and slightly live at the back. Raising amps of the floor and away from back walls helps too. I always move amps aro...

Thats great work! Love the big old Redfern tranny. Looking forward to the end result, great stuff! Haha cheers. That Redfern tranny weighs more than the rest of the amp put together. Solid stuff. Thanks again for the info on the other thread. I'm a terrible procrastinator and being busy isn't helpi...

Hi there! You're bang on the money. Redfern it is. I took the amp halfbuilt to Ryan and he checked it. Continuity wise it's all good. I've built the amp but have been just to busy to take it in. Going to start it up first time with a Variac just to make sure. Thanks so much for the info. You obvious...

Cheers! I like things neat. The EQ is a Pultec style built by the BBC for Radio NZ back in the 60's. Much mojo! Pretty standard stuff in the lunchbox but have all the right flavours.
