Re: Les Paul and Tele tuning stability tips?
Any point of contact can cause slippage, on the LP that's bridge saddles, nut slots, and to a lesser extent the tuners themmselves. Its worth it on a older guitar to remove any burrs that exist in the slots at either end. Fold over a piece of 400 grit sandpaper and rub it in the slots until theres ...

Interesting thing is on the way. A Hohner L59, which is also a Cort GE27, which is also a lot of other things. Mid 80s Korean Les Paul style thing made by Cortek but badged with whoever paid for a big enough order. The one I have on the way was badged as Canora, which seems to have been ordered by a...

Re: Where to get components locally
If you're doing an order from Evatco let me know and I'll get involved to save on shipping. Cheers, but the 0.68uF/680n part they have is on backorder. I follow a couple of Aussie amp tech and modding channels and they have a lot more stuff over there, but still plenty of the hassles we do. That wa...

If you've never delved into parallel/series wiring on a HB equipped guitar rather than full/split, you are missing out.

Re: Where to get components locally
I don't think there's anywhere to get good stuff locally but I've ordered from Evatco in Australia many times. https://www.evatco.com.au/electronics/capacitors/ South Island Components are still operating down here in Christchurch: https://www.sicom.co.nz/?function=prodlist&filterflags=0&po...

Re: Redplating el84
With a burn mark like that I'd replace the resistor at a matter of principle. It'll take 30 seconds. I'd use a vishay 5 watt as well for peace of mind. Good shout on swapping tubes around to see if the same tube goes wonky in another socket. Hopefully it's a just a bad tube and not something more se...

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
The "great" guitarists of today that the young aspiring guitarist wants to emulate play Aristides, Ibanez, Kiesel, Strandberg, Music Man, and other similar brands, These kids are probably playing LTD and Schecters though. Which is great because they make really well made guitars.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
Makes perfect sense. Those young dad's couldn't afford the Gibsons when they were seeing them on stages, now they can. However, I wonder if today's kids will care so much about the legacy brands in 15 years. I suspect not but time will certainly tell.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
Watching the Foo Fighters tonight there were a few nice LPs being swapped in for both Pat Smear and Chris Shiflet at times, gave me hope rock isn’t on the way out and the classic LP into a stack is still as stronger statement as ever. Well, Dave is 55 and Pat is 64. I haven't seen many (if any) pla...

At the risk of tooting my own horn the Third Eye we do at Monarch was designed for just what you just described... But the last one in stock just left for Texas.
