Re: Midi Journey
Guitarists and tech. Anyone playing around with synths at that time had a WAY steeper learning curve than making a few guitar effects talk to each other. Had to wire them up yourselves, manual was in Latin, had to generate your own electricity by pedaling, etc etc etc No. We had to read the documen...

Re: Strings to balance filtertrons ?
I have a CC Deusenberg which came from Oleg. Installed a set of Dtron's, Deusenberg's version of Filtertrons. They gave the guitar a great but pretty bright tone. Very little bottom end in the neck pu. Recently put a set of flatwounds on it and now there is plenty of bass in the neck again and less ...

Re: Speaker / Amp impedance mismatch...
I highly recommend the Iron Man attenuator ( big version ). It's particularly transparent , will take 100watts and has a z matcher so you can set the input to the impedance of your amp's output and the output to the impedance of your speaker. Doesn't have a 2 ohm setting though so Super Reverb users...

Re: MDF vs Ply for Cabs
Nice one JB. So, not really any real-world difference re wood. Interesting. if no difference to tone, the durability / moisture resilience etc stuff is totally legitimate. Becoming more relevant if recent weather patterns are going to be more frequent. I think that's why Marshall have moved to that...

Re: Flatties in da house
Learn me please. Do flats mellow out the sharpness of the bridge pickup? To a certain extent. This particular guitar is inherently bright and has retained much of it despite the flats. However the bridge pu has never been an issue. Clean at low volume requires some tone back off but cranked it tran...

Re: NGD: 1994 Malmsteen Strat
Never tried a scalloped Strat but I had an SG custom in the early 70's which had been scalloped and it was extremely easy to fly around on. I think the presence of 3 pu's required more playing adaptation than the scalloping .

Re: What's on your work bench?
I managed to get in contact with Steve Dawson the guy who designed the Astoria series. I have now modified the amp slightly, I have reduced the gain by about 25% which makes it easier to dial in. I have also reduced the boost setting by quite a bit, again makes it much more useable. Easy to reverse...

Re: Speakers and amps and ohms and magic
Question still lingers though...is it safe to run the amp at 16 ohms into a speaker load of 8 ohms? I was under the impression that running an 8 ohm out into a 16 ohm load is ok and on the occasions I've done it, sounds fine but quieter than a matched output. Running from 16 into 8 though could pot...
