Re: Dogear P90 recommendations
Seymour Duncan Antiquity is great indeed....however when it comes to P90's, it's actually pretty hard to go past the current production Gibson P90. It's twangy and fat!
(the P100 is definitely NOT twangy, and is more "bloated" than fat)!

Re: Incoming JCM 900 Mkiii
JCM900 mkIII 2100(100W) / 2500 (50W) models . These are essentially identical circuit to 2203/2204 but with a diode clipper added for more gain and footswtichable dual master volumes. Later on, the 2100 / 2500 became known as the SL-X, which removed the diode clipper and added an extra preamp tube ...

Re: Incoming JCM 900 Mkiii
For those that don't know BTW. The Marshall tone lineage is pretty damn linear all the way up the line of their flagship amps, because in a lot of ways they are VERY similar throughout the years in the core models. After the switch to EL34's and solid state rectifiers you can pretty much draw a stra...

Re: Incoming JCM 900 Mkiii
The 900 mkIII is an awesome amp. It's essentially just a 2203 with an additional gain stage and footswitchable dual master volumes (i.e. solo boost). Great sounding amp! I liked them a LOT more than the much more common Dual Reverbs

Re: NGD Fotoflame strat
Wow! I believe that I owned that very guitar (briefly) back in the early 2000's. That is an assumption from the position of two of the dings, and the graph tech saddles. The finish wasn't all screwed up like that when I had it though I bought it second hand because it played GREAT, installed the gr...

You can achieve this with a 5-way super switchrickenbackerkid wrote: I'd like to find a mod which disconnects the bridge tone control when I'm in the bridge/middle 'cluck' position, and reconnects it when I'm just using the bridge pickup.

Re: Boss Waza Air
Putting aside my obvious bias.... I just took some home the other day and they are one of the best musical things I have EVER bought. (I say "bought"...they're on my staff loan account....but they'll be on my credit card shortly) They are far and away the best "at home" guitar pl...

Re: Kemp Strings - WTF is this black magic?!??!?
Having owned a transtrem steinberger, it really wasn't a game changer and clearly EVH didn't think so as he only used it on two songs. And that was to lock it down in pitch for the solos. Nahhh....more than that. I can think of 3 off the top of my head and I'm sure there are more: Summer Nights Me ...

Re: Mics for guitar cabs. What has impressed you the most?
I heartily recommend Audix i5
I used to run IEM's and mic choice on my guitar cab became a really big deal. I went from SM57 to Beta 57a to a Rode NT-2A (large diagrahm condenser)......to an Audix i5, which ended up being my favourite of the lot.

Re: The nightmare is over!! CITES to exempt musical instruments from rosewood ban
You've always been allowed to carry them in person, so that's not an issue. Technically not true. The CITES rosewood ban applied also to personal instruments being carried. It seems that NZ Customs took a fairly lax view to it (good on them!) so I didn't hear of many problems in NZ....however there...
