Re: StewMac StewMax

Has anyone taken up the StewMax offer? https://www.stewmac.com/StewMAX/StewMAX_1-Year_Membership.html I'm wondering whether it's worth it and whether the free shipping is painfully slow? I paid for a StewMax membership and had some books shipped last week which arrived yesterday. 6 day from Dispatc...

Yes I have. A great course and you can do it with very little prior woodwork experience. Paddy usually runs it once every 2 years in January and you can build a Dreadought, OM, or Classical.

Re: Chapman ML3 ?

From my limited experience (only seeing ones that had issues) the Indonesian ones were good, but heavy like Molly said and they may need a little fretwork unless you have a tolerance for some minor fret buzz. The Korean made ones were a step up and better in that regard. The used Ghost fret on TM is...

Re: What's on your work bench?

This is what I was looking for! Cheers Rob! PS- for leveling work, if you straight edge a neck using a slotted rule, and find the neck dead on (with strings removed, truss backed off or not) do you still use the jig to improve stability? I do, yes. I have used a vice in the past, along with a long ...

Re: What's on your work bench?

I have the Erlewine neck jig and use it regularly. I don't use it for fret removal or installation or slot/tang width sizing, I use it for fret levelling. Yes it is accurate and is definitely not the only way to do things to a high standard, but it makes life easier especially on things with non-adj...

In 2011 they were shipping 1500 per month, not sure about current numbers.

I have a Lava retro coil which is still going strong after 10 years. The Vox ones are good too.

Re: NGD: Sigma

This came from a seller in Wellington, I believe? If so then I've played it before and after the Santa Cruz strings went on (and against my initial hopes I preferred the strings that were on it before, 12-53 PB, unsure of the brand). A nice sounding guitar that felt like it hadn't quite opened up ye...

Plenty of non-bling models available, and the all-solid stuff above $1k is fantastic (just ignore the Dragon inlay).

Re: Any "forever" amps?

I've had this Bogner Mojado head for 10 years now... and during that time I've also owned (And sold) a Soldano, AC30, Rivera, Tamerlane, Wolverton, a Boogie Mk. 3 and countless others. It has no master and no practical EQ (although the Schizo switch does change the voicing nicely) but just sounds gr...
