Re: Where to get components locally
Blinkin' heck. That seller took a week to ship, but just issued a partial refund too. Yes, they refunded $4.30 for the capacitor, i.e., the main thing I was after. Where's that fella that offered to post me one? PM incoming. What a pain in the butt just to get a cap. It makes want to import a bunch ...

Re: Where to get components locally
Never heard of Techexpress before. They say theyre based in Palmy North but they don’t give a physical address so it’s probably a reseller. Suntan brand is what jaycar and other retail electronics shops sell. They’re nothing special but they’ll do the job. And I’m still happy to post you any of the...

Re: Where to get components locally
I found somewhere and ordered a couple of polyester caps and some other stuff. I have never heard of Suntan brand caps from Hong Kong, but it should be fine for a cathode and if not, well never mind as long as my valves don't get sunburned. :P I'll know by how long it takes to ship and get here if t...

Re: Where to get components locally
P.S. I saw that the voltages on that pin are very low. I see folks selling those old Phillips mustard caps for over 100 dollars each on Ebay and the 0.1uf and 0.68uf ones are getting even rarer than the 0.022uf ones. That amp tech fella in Titirangi is sitting on a treasure trove (I am not sure if h...

Re: Where to get components locally
There must be a reason they use 160v or greater. I just trawled TradeMe looking for one. No joy. They used that cap because the same cap was used in other amps Marshall were building at the time and they like simplifying their inventory. It's not for safety, sound or any other reason. Also that is ...

Re: Where to get components locally
If you're doing an order from Evatco let me know and I'll get involved to save on shipping. Cheers, but the 0.68uF/680n part they have is on backorder. I follow a couple of Aussie amp tech and modding channels and they have a lot more stuff over there, but still plenty of the hassles we do. That wa...

Re: Where to get components locally
If you could mail that yellow cap to me, or the one at the bottom of the pic, that would be a great help. Cheers. I'll P.M soon

Re: Best DAW for beginner
For PC Reaper is the way to go, unless you have specific needs and are prepared to jump on the learning curve of one of the paid DAWs like Cubase etc. One thing I like about Reaper is it fires up quickly. Quite a bit faster than other DAWs I have. It also seems to be very efficient with CPU usage. I...

Re: Where to get components locally
Cheers. But I think 63v is probably plenty, because the 330uF electrolytic cap on the normal channel is just 25v. I'll play it safe though. There must be a reason they use 160v or greater. I just trawled TradeMe looking for one. No joy. This will teach me for turning into a half blind, clumsy, almos...

Re: Where to get components locally
P.S. Notice that Guitar Parts NZ is not in NZ now? They are only in Oz now. Fractal's NZ dealer is based over there as well. Probably a few others too. Aussie is near enough the same thing as NZ it seems.

Re: Where to get components locally
As per the thread title. Most folks say Digikey etc. But they are not in NZ. I just need a 0.68uF 160v cap for the cathode bypass on the treble channel of a JMP 1987. Nobody in NZ stocks stuff like that, which means international shipping costs to get a one dollar part. It's a pain in the butt. Par...

Re: Forums have been slow, how about a 'In the mail' thread?
Friedman IR-X. According to 'what's my duty' at NZ customs it should pass customs without any charges. I got sick of waiting for the two authorized NZ dealers to get around to bringing one in, so I imported direct from BAD myself. I do not expect it to sound like a BE Deluxe, or any other 100 watt a...

Re: Show Us Your Guitar
I only have three guitars. More than enough for little old me. My current favourite is this old 1990s Studio with the ebony finger board that Glyn put stainless frets in. I chucked in a Dimarzio Super Distortion and 36th Anniversary PAF, plus the old school speed knobs. Hybrid Slinky strings tuned E...

Re: The fuzZie bRo Pedals and Amps Register
He built a tube screamer for me that is quite good. I lent it to my nephew so he could decide if he wanted to get his own screamer pedal. He settled on the Cmat Mods Super Sigma Drive, which is a well regarded pedal. Demos sold him on that over all the other options out there. However, he likes the ...
