Re: Show us your Stratocasters!

My only real strat shortly after buying it in 1993. It was a 1973 USA something or other with Seymour Duncan active pickups and Kahler tremolo installed by the owner before the guy I bought it off. Very quiet for recording, very stable tuning. The tone often seemed less dynamic than I would have pre...

Re: Go to Guitar.

Acoustic is a 1976 or 7 Riviera nylon. Electric is a Jem 77vbk. I was going to say that I'm firmly in the modern camp when it comes to guitars, but the jems and other superstrat variations are getting on these days too. I've also been playing a new Hagstrom super swede, but. It is heavy, and not as ...

And mine has a great country blues sound too. But I still like the Vt20+ for the cleans.

Finishing pieces of music

I've been frustrated musically in several respects lately, one being that I have started and abandoned about a dozen ideas (still available on my computer for future return, but for now I'm blocked). The following blog item discusses the remedy which I thought it might be helpful to someone else too...

Re: Jazz? It's not all wank

Now, to me, that's ALL wank. edit- the last clip has some merit, but I think you could substitute stagecraft for technical musicianship and the statement would still hold true. Horrible, calculated crap IMO (emphasis on the O). Also not entirely representative of his work. This is my fave track of ...

Re: Jazz? It's not all wank

I should have disclosed that I haven't been to an audition since 1992. I believe that John 5 owns a B-Bender. And I'm fairly sure I've seen a picture of him in Guitar World or a similar magazine in a check shirt, though none are on sale in the following link. http://john-5.com/store/ Having said tha...

Here is Kraftwerk improvising over Autobahn in 1974 (sound quality not the best, musical interest high):

Re: Jazz? It's not all wank

DM indirectly brings something up that I find more and more difficult to understand in the modern musical landscape - the categorization of music to the extent that even though I have a reasonably good ear I can't tell the difference between the various offshoots in metal, jazz and, for want of a be...

Re: Jazz? It's not all wank

Yes Rog, my wife has a similar emotional response to music she doesn't like, but I've been lucky because she's turned me on to a number of different people I hadn't listened to before (John Hiatt most notably but many others) and she has been very supportive of my writing approach over the years as ...

Re: Jazz? It's not all wank

I really dislike overly intellectualised music in general and Jazz (and quite a bit of metal TBH) has some pretty horrendous offenders as a genre. Indeed!!! A lot of people dislike jazz because of these kinds of issues. But also, to a lot of people improvisation sounds like elevator music, which I ...

Re: Jazz? It's not all wank

I've been looking forward all week to coming back to this thread and watching all of the clips undisturbed on the cheap internet rates.

Had breakfast, fired up the computer and what a feast it was!

Thanks for posting them people.
