His Master's Voice and The Defendants - Hamilton, June 20th

A rock'n'roll show with NZG connections  His Master's Voice, who our own Capt Black was instrumental in the inception of; and The Defendants, long-time friends of mine who I now play bass for, and young whippersnappers Blood Buffalo, playing loud'n'dirty blues-fuelled rock'n'roll. Event inf...

Yep - though the repairman in me takes umbrage with some of the build aspects, these are great sounding amps for the money.

Re: Lunchbox v 'Full-Size' Amps

I outside gigged that plexi I talk about last sunday night, even in it's 1x12 combo form, volume @ 4 and not really digging into it's sweet zone was too loud. What next, pull a power tube out? Don't pull a tube, it's a push-pull amp, needs both power tubes. Most cost-effective solution is to instal...

Re: Lunchbox v 'Full-Size' Amps

With the DeVille i probably dont quite need it that loud, was after a deluxe but got a good deal on the DeVille. About a deluxe i thinks good. A mate of mine has a deluxe and i think they're 40w and the point of maximum head room i find that a good volume. Thats something thats always so intreged m...

Re: Lunchbox v 'Full-Size' Amps

:) My bandmate has one of those little MPC 5W tweed amps, it was a dirty dirty dirty gainy beast with the 12ax7 in there and the 6V6 power tube it had, he put in a 12at7 (I think) and a 6L6 power tube, it's super clean now right up to full volume!! Sounds beautiful too :) This is an interesting one...

Re: Lunchbox v 'Full-Size' Amps

For me its all about clean headroom. I was going to buy a Blues Jnr but they did start to break up at a volume i still wanted clean. So i went for the DeVille. But theres no way i need 60w of valve amp, even my class 5 is loud enough, id be keen on an amp that is that size but clean all the way to ...

Re: Lunchbox v 'Full-Size' Amps

Good thread, raises interesting points. Lots of good answers already, I'll just chuck a couple of points in here ... As mentioned, transformers - not just the OT, but the PT too, and probably the omission of a choke too - when designing smaller/lighter transformers, you end up with a different resul...

Re: Can a pedal ever sound as good as an amp channel?!

Nah, pedals are at their best adding something extra to good sound, be it toneshaping, gain, volume, or texture. The amp in a can pedals never get close to the real thing. and there it is. the boost (excuse the pun) i was looking for.....a visit to The Amp Shop is on the cards :) Happy to do these ...

Re: Can a pedal ever sound as good as an amp channel?!

Howdy folks… So a little while ago I picked up a Bogner Shiva EL34 2x12 combo (ex. Kiwiaxe and Zaulkin). It’s a fantastic sounding amp. Channel 1 is “blackface” Fender’ish and Channel 2 is “JCM 800” with a Bogner flavour. I absolutely love the clean tones in this amp but have found the dirty channe...

The B9 doesn't, I run it in Y a lot, I'd be very surprised if the c9 differed.
Good to hear :)

Not sure if the C9 flips phase, but if it does, the Y setting could sound bad/phasey.
