Ha! Yeah, I hear what you're saying! Such a cracking tune. He's always had that special ability to write songs that instantly seem recognisable, and sort of timeless.philly wrote: just heard Angelina... if you took away the vocal it could be a tom petty track

That is awesome Simon. He is one of NZ's taongas. If you get the chance, talk to him about his song writing process. I did a long time ago and it's fascinating.

Thanks very much! Oh yeah, I'd love to talk that with him! I always find it very fascinating hearing the differences, or similarities with other songwriters. I've always been truely amazed at how it Elton John and Bernie Taupin write I'll make sure to take the opportunity if it appearskdawg2a wrote:That is awesome Simon. He is one of NZ's taongas. Yeah, an almost deceptive quality to it....until you try singing some of the songs ha! Neil Finn has a similar thing I think.philly wrote: he's also got one of those sort of "effortless" voices

I thought it was just in my uneducated ears and head. I'm glad even professionals acknowledge this. Neill Finn for sure, and Dave Dobbyn, and Bernie Marsden, etc. There are people who sound great on record but cannot seem to do it live. I suspect these guys can do it any time, any where.SimonHirst wrote:Yeah, an almost deceptive quality to it....until you try singing some of the songs ha! Try and find two better songs then 'beside you' Dave Dobbyn and 'distant sun' Neil Finn. Monsters.

Yes, it's really interesting. Some people seem to be able to sing as though it's just breathing to them...no big deal or anything, it just sort of happens!!
