Transit of Venus coming to Welly for the first time!

Post by Kristie »

"Silent Movie vs Rock Opera"

'Transit of Venus' is a mutatable project band hatched by Auckland based composer/songwriter and multi- instrumentalist Kristie Addison. 'Nosferatu' is a german expressionist silent horror film created in 1922 by F.W. Murnau.

Transit of Venus vs. Nosferatu is an 84 minute long rock- opera style concept album performed live in accompaniment to a screening of the movie. The music gifts new emotion and narrative to the classic horror film, beautiful progressive soundscapes are dotted with starry eyed songs about love and death. It’s a modern musical interpretation of the olden-time romance and tragedy, and not without a touch of black comedy.

Initially performed in 2009 as a 'once off' show at TAPAC (The Auckland Performing Arts Centre), the music was recorded and released online and has been loved by secret pockets of underground music fans from many corners of the world.

2012’s show has been reworked and partly rewritten, and is presented by a mostly new line-up of performers; Adam Willis, Diamond Fist Willie, and Kristie Addison. Narrated by Tom Wardle.

The first show is at Basement Theatre (Greys Ave, Auckland) in Auckland on Saturday the 11th of February

Auckland tickets are available through iTicket http://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2012/fe ... -nosferatu

Followed by 4 shows for Wellington Fringe Festival at BATS Theatre (1 Kent Terrace, Wellington) Monday the 20th through to Thursday the 23rd of February.

Yeah, so this is happening. It's going to be pretty choice, you should probably buy tickets if you're keen to come along because seats are limited and the chances of door sales at the Auckland show... well who knows really.

It''' be the first time I've ever played in Wellington, so I'm a bit excited about that. Don't know too many people in Wellington but hopefully I'll meet some of you welly forumites this trip ;)

This is a picture of us pulling sad faces at no forum responses. Really. Well except for Tom. He's kind of smirking...

Once was a vampire. Now more of a Van Helsing. 8)

How did the Auckland gig go?

This is a really good show. When ToV staged it the first time a couple years ago it was pretty awesome. But I think this version trumps that because the costuming and interaction between the projected movie and the musicians' roles as characters from the film, adds so much more to the show.

Do not miss. :)

It's a nice little seated show in a theatre so having anyone moving about taking photos is quite distracting from an audience perspective, we're actually big meanies and don't let anyone take photos during the show. Thanks for the offer though. If it was our usual band gigs we'd be all like 'Hell yeah!' :D

If you wanted to do some set-up photos after one of the shows give me a pm, I have another photographer coming down with us that's going to do something like that because someone started disassembling the Auckland set before we'd had a chance to take pictures haha. So yeah, might be nice to have two photographers working at cross purposes. I love potentially awkward situations. Lets do it

Yes indeed, this show is great! =D
Seriously impressed. They know the movie so well, and the music even better.

Nosferatu doesn't share his toffees...
