Worst gig that you were invited to but didn't attend
Once a woman asked me to go to see popular easy listening duo the Lighthouse Family, in London 1996. I made an excuse and didn't go. No doubt quite a boring gig. That particular two hours of my life were not wasted. I got to spend them watching tv and playing with myself.
What's the worst gig that you were invited to but didn't attend?

I once gave my ticket to a U2 show to a friend, think she enjoyed it more than I would have.

WASP at Newcastle City Hall. We only went for Warlock - the delectable Doro Pesch. Ended up we go there just in time to hear her say "Thank you, good night!".
Down to the bar to play with myself. Although as luck would have it, a couple of the bands girlfriends were there and we got chatting and one thing led to another.... yeah, we went to the after party told the band that we didn't bother watching them but got pissed with your girls instead...

Re: Worst gig that you were invited to but didn't attend
A few years back, mates of mine tried to get me to watch the feelers around Xmas. I used to like them back in the late 90's, but quickly went off them after an altercation with the singer who drunkenly hit on my then-girlfriend in front of me at a bar my mate worked at around 2001 or so. He was of the mindset that my presence was only a minor obstacle his bedding my rather attractive lady at the time (effectively said words to this effect), and I would honestly say at the time, he was the biggest wanker I've ever met. Put me right off them.
A couple of my mates went to said gig, where there were about 10-20 people in attendance. Apparently it was very bad; watching these guys drone out half-assed versions of their hits with kind with all the enthusiasm of Michael Murphy being called up for his annual Xmas In the Park gig... you know it's a gig... but it's the gig you just shouldn't play.

Well, not sure if it counts, but I went to see Satriani at G-Taranaki. I had a free ticket.
Left after ten minutes.
Controversial in these here parts, I know...

Saw Simple Minds/INXS in Christchurch a few years back. Arrested Development opened and were pretty good, SM amazing...then INXS were like celebrity karaoke...had that guy who won that Tv show fronting them. Left after 2 songs.

Had tickets for Aerosmith with Vai opening (Sheffield Arena I think it was). Stuck my head in to see Vai making a fucking awful noise and went back to the bar. Aerosmith were, as ever, fantastic.

Remember that first Pearl Jam gig in Auckland when the crowd outside the venue followed their antipodian cousins lead and broke down the fence to Mt Smart stadium and got in for free? Well I casually walked in through the same gap in the fence and watched the same gig. Left after 2 songs. Shite.

Re: Worst gig that you were invited to but didn't attend
I got asked to go to The Foo Fighters at Hyde Park, but I declined and went to see Shihad at Shepherds Bush Empire instead. Shihad were on serious form, the place was pretty full considering the competition and I was feeling quite smug about making the correct choice.
Until I caught the train home, which was full of people who had been at the Foos gig, who were all raving about it being a life-changing level of an awesome experience.
Worst gig because I missed it.

Naaaaaa. People are full of shit. I saw Kiss at Wembley (full make up an' all that). Overheard some bloke in the bog saying Ace Frehley's guitar solo was 'life changing'. It was fucking garbage. The show was fucking garbage. I left early.Danger Mouse wrote:

Re: Worst gig that you were invited to but didn't attend
The guy who invited me was pretty adamant it was (and still is, as far as I know) the best concert he's ever been to. I'd like to think people were full of shit but I've been told too many times by too many people just how good it was.Molly wrote:Naaaaaa. People are full of shit.
