James May's Toy Stories

Post by Jenesis »

I trust everyone has been watching this, Mondays on 3? Great show for us old enough to remember life pre-Playstation era, when kids played with toys instead of joys... ticks.

In the first episode May (of Top Gear fame) constructed a life-size model Spitfire, second one he made a flowergarden display out of plasticine and entered it in the Chelsea Flower Show. Last week he made a walk-uponnable Meccano bridge, and the other night a four-mile Scalextric track that traced the outline of a famous old racetrack. Next week he's making an actual size house out of Lego.

Great show. Funny, informative, entertaining and with bonus retro memories stuff. Check it out on YouTube if you wanna catch up with uncut episodes.

I watched the Meccano one last night on YouTube and was "interested" to note that the episodes are 60 minutes long. That means TV3 are hacking out about 15-20 minutes to fit in ads...

What time is this programme on? I usually watch Band Of Brothers on Monday . When I turn on my TV all I ever see are cooking programmes or reality programmes about fat people who cry all the bloody time ( aren,t fat people supposed to be jolly ) I need to get Sky TV because their is bugger all music on free TV. The cricket starts now and I have my 2 dozen big serve Carlsberg in the fridge waiting for me so I am going now.

Word, I think I'll watch the rest of the series on YouTube now that I realise the ones on TV have about a third of the show missing.

The Lego house is a let down, terribily designed. Lego offered to help out if they could design it, but James wouldn't have that. Disappointing to a lego nut like me.

I've been watching this. I like the concept, but i find james may a bit dull as a host. He sort of idly muses in a terribly humourless fashion for long periods of time. While i don't support cutting the show to fit in ads, I reckon you could easily edit half of the show out and not actually miss any of the interesting content.

I spose its a change from endless bullsh*t reality tv and crappy american hospital/police shows so for that i am immensely grateful.

I've been really enjoying it, it's always interesting to see the obsessed adults like that guy with the 3k scalextric (sp?) cars! James is dull but that's most of his charm =)

He's almost cried a few times during the series. James gets quite emotional about his toys.
