Re: Anvil: The Story Of Anvil
There's a fair bit of singing on Kill 'Em All that wouldn't get my vote for "cool".sambrowne wrote:'tallica have always had cool vocals, if somewhat patchy lyrics (well, lyrics that are as crap as all other metal bands')
Overall, my point was that the main reasons that bands like Anvil and the other obvious seminal bands of that era + genre are regarded as highly influential are not the vocals. Lyrics? Well, even the crappest of lyrics can end up having a huge impact - Venom's "Black Metal" anyone?
I quite like those lyrics that Jenesis quoted above, in the same way I quite like some of Nikki Sixx's genius moments.

Re: Anvil: The Story Of Anvil
I think you can generalise that to heaps of rock music from forever. There are a few excellent lyricists, and then a whole lot of bullshit but it doesn't matter because the riffs are loud. I never used to listen to lyrics at all, but once I started it made heaps of rock stuff really hard to stomach. Guess it all comes down to taste and stuff

Lyrics are overrated.

Re: Anvil: The Story Of Anvil
Metal can't win. On the one hand you have unintentional comedy lyrics aplenty, and on the other you have bands trying to write serious lyrics and really botching that up bad. Think Dream Theatre.

I'll take any song with multiple references to dragons and fire and battles and shit over any song that uses the word "pimp" or "ho" just once.

Is that a troll henderson? I could go on at length about how not racial it is, but I don't have a lot of energy right now.

Nah all I meant was that you were saying you prefer metal (the whitest genre out) lyics over rap lyrics which is the blackest genre out. Not really making a point about how you feel about that, just hassling you because I'm bored at work and antagnoising people on nzguitars is what I do
