Exodus, BFMV and Soulfly

Post by rob_on_guitar »

Got some nice goodies in the mail today, my first impressions:

Exodus - Exhibit B: The Human Condition.

I've been a fan of Exodus since I heard the song Piranha, lately the thrash scene to me seemed quite boring besides the odd release, the album before this was 'OK' to 'Good' at best, this album, just ripped my face off! These guys have just breathed new life into it and rip it big time, snarly vox, crazy solos, tight drums and bass, just good thrash!
If you liked Exodus 'Shovel' album you will like this.

BFMV - Fever

I have to admit the first album wasn't too bad, but everything Ive heard after sounds the same, same drum sound, guitar tone, vocal harmonies.... this album is pretty much the same except it doesn't sound as polished and I'm actually quite enjoying it. Better than their second album, probably on par with the first, but nothing new here.

Soulfly - Omen

Actually pretty damn heavy album! As usual a fair few guest appearances, the slow jam as the last track, kinda interesting, if you lined up all the slow jam soulfly tracks up you could probably hear the progression of the band.
Im liking the track Kingdom at the moment, but nothing really stands out so far, will either be one of those 'grow on you' albums.... or a beer coaster....

I really liked Shovel Headed Kill Machine, so I will deffo check out that new Exodus album.

Probably won't bother with the others, I've got the first Bullet album but yeah it's a bit average.

I actually didnt mind the first album, I just dont like the screaming parts.... I like just the normal singing, Id call them just average if anything, not the worst but not the best either.

I am an Arise fan, fuck that album blew me away!
The drumming alone was classic! Chaos AD was cool, different but ok, roots kinda bugged me, I think I only liked the track that went "open up your mind and go your own way", but I wished they stuck to the metal as way.

Cavalera Conspiracy is.. ok I guess. I was pretty underwhelmed. Although I have been getting into Five Finger Death Punch lately, who are a bit more post-nu-ish I guess.

I was trying to think of appropriate comparisons, but nothing really fit. Somewhere in the Soil/Stone Sour/Union Underground kind of mould, very USA sounding with more singing style vocals and less growling/screaming over pretty heavy riffs. That tends to be the zone I go for.
