Albums that somehow passed you by completely...

Post by stuu »

The Datsuns - Selftitled

WHERE THE FUCK WAS I WHEN THIS HAPPENED?

Used to go watch them in their former incarnations at hamilton YouthZone/Meteor theatre 5 bands - 5bucks nights. Been aware of the singles from this album, and enjoy them: somehow never gave the album a listen.

iTunes Shuffle, blessing or a curse? You be the judge.

Y'all got any you SHOULD have been old enough and ugly enough to be into when it happened, but wasn't?

Afterthought: Perhaps over-exposure played a part in why i never followed this album up.

I'm sure there are many that passed me by, though I'm not sure that I care enough to know them. I find gem's that I should have listened to everyday.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Everything by The Flaming Lips, but particularly Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - it's been on heavy rotation for the past fortnight. Just bought a couple of their other albums today. Flipping amazing, and completely smokes any other indie-ish stuff out there IMO.

Many albums/bands fit this description. Most notably Testament. Just discovered them this year. Also Buckcherry.

I purposely ignored 95% of grunge at the time, but have been listening to a lot of Alice In Chains lately due to ash and others wittering on about how good they are.

Quite good, they are.

Shit, how would I know?
They passed me by completely, didn't they?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had I bothered to check out house music at the time. I was heavily into electronic music and recording back then, so I probably would have liked it and all.

But other than that, well... if records passed me by, it's because I was into other stuff at the time so it's all good.
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Too many to list!
Of recent(-ish) note, discovered Cakes' "Fashion Nugget" a few months ago and have been kicking myself since that I didn't bother getting the album when it came out - love it and have been absolutely thrashing it.
You have the right to remain silent... But I wanna hear you scream!
