Tech repairs: Rock Shop or Musicworks

Post by werdna »

My Randall amp's midi system may be on the fritz. Both Rockshop and Musicworks boast in-house expertise to diagnose and carry out a repair.

I need to decide which to go to.

Do forum members have any reviews of their experiences with either, and could you make recommendations please?

I'd just figure out which techs they're sending them to and go there.

Musicworks said the work would be done by "our staff" and wouldn't say who that was. Rock Shop wouldn't say who either, although they didn't say whether it would be an employee or contractor. So I haven't the first idea who the job would go to.

We would send it to our in-house service centre - to our in-house technicians, who work in the same building as me.

A MIDI-related problem on a Randall could be a fairly tricky thing to diagnose and fix without a schematic. However, since I've recently taken on the Washburn agency, which has the same parent company that owns Randall, then I could likely get hold of a schematic for our techs to work from.

Awesome. Please can you advise the model of amp, so I can get onto trying to source schematics before it gets here?

It's an RM4 preamp and RT2/50 power amp. The midi controller is a Rocktron midimate. Thanks.

If you like, you can call or email Rocktron.. I have called them and emailed them for help.. They didnt charge me and took them about 5 mins to get it sorted... (if it turns out to be the pedal..)

If you're having a MIDI issue, It's unlikely to be the power amp of course so probably no need to take that in. Definitely helpful to have both the RM4 and MIDI controller too. (and the MIDI cable you use.....can I assume you've tried it with a different cable?)

Phil used to do quite a bit of work for us, but not for a few years now.
