He was using the Reinhardt Storm which was Bob's take on a Jcm 800. Odd choice I thought ( as did Bob haha )

I think a JCM800 makes a lot of sense, isn't it essentially the same kind of thing as a JTM45? Classic tube Marshall with a little more gain?

Well they both say Marshall on the front but other than that apples and oranges.

I love Mark Knopfler's tones. He has a few very different ones - that strat quack, les paul breathing, etc. Great player. I'm also a fan of his voice.

He has done some corny stuff - but i'm just a little bit younger than the average dire straits fan so I was never sure if they were consciously corny or if they thought that stuff was cool. Twisting by the Pool etc doesn't seem to be serious.

He's serious all right. Most of the famous musicians who were teenagers in England in the late 50s and early 60s were blown away by rock and rock and rockabilly. After they were famous and could do what they wanted, they started playing that style.
