My first handmade guitar

Post by raz »

OK After browsing Ash's works in progress, I thought I'd bite the bullet and show off my first effort. In January I spent 3 weeks doing a course in acoustic guitar building in Wellington run by Dave Freeman from Canada ( http://www.timelessinstruments.com ) and Paddy Burgin ( http://www.burginguitars.co.nz )

Top is Englemann Spruce, Rosewood back and sides and Sapele neck with rosewood fingerboard.

I'm pretty happy with it as a first effort although like all first things, now I've finished it I want to do it all again without some of the mistakes.

Next project is a couple of electrics.

Anyway here goes, snorts of derision and rotten vegetables anticipated.

BTW Ash - your instruments look superb. I'm envious.

Electrics will be a walk in the park after working up a solid wood acoustic. I learned heaps just from prepping acoustic wood and I haven't even built it yet!

Learning under Dave and Paddy's supervision probably saves an enormous amount of frustration and avoids the simple mistakes that you'd never have thought of by yourself.

Nice effort! Now bring us the sound clips ;)

meh looks ok, two complaints.

1. it's not black
2. There is no humbuckers

Add these and you have a great guitar in my opinion

Also on acoustic guitars, why are like 20 + frets when you can only easily acces the first 12-15????

LOL - I've always wondered about that too, mate - why so many useless frets?
