Winding ric toasters
Ok well I decided Id like to have 60s correct toasters in my ric 330. It currently has high gains which are a tad dark for my liking.
Toasters are notoriously expensive, and orignal 60s almost impossible to find. The creamery make a replacement but we are talking serious coin.
So, as I have some spare time I thought Id try and make some.
I have the 60s specs as 44 awg wire, Alnico 5 rods with exposed magnet recessed under the pickup.
Resistance varies a lot but I think ill be looking for somewhere around 6-7kOhm
$4 is very fine, and chances are ill break a lot and have a stroke.
I have ordered a reed switch and will find a cheap potentiometer to make a counter. Im thinking of modifying a second hand high ratio egg beater fishing reel as a winder.
Im starting with cheap kent armstrong copies. They sound sterile. They have a big heavy ceramic bar as far as I can see. Apart they are chopped.
Ewww

Re: Winding ric toasters
I found some bobins for around $2 on ebay. 50 pole spacing. They clearly need modding to fit

With the bobbins trimmed down and correct diam holes drilled the alnico 5s squeeze in nice and snugg

Re: Winding ric toasters
Next instalment will be the construction of the winder.
Those of you who have been down this road before, please chime in with advice.
At this stage im still wondering about:
power drill/sewing machine style vs hand wound (hand drill/fishing reel)
Im thinking hand wound as i wonder if ill be less likely to snap the wire

Lol. Actually, on my view it looks like a spanner, then hit the “subscribe”.
I feel like a spanner.

Re: Winding ric toasters
I bought a kit of mcferson a while ago, it had a modified calculator that will count the winds. I never used it. if your in aucks I`ll trade it for a bottle of Gin
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.
