Re: Slug tape
Looks like there are gonna be a few more shielded guitars around...
I even took the covers off my Greco bass pickups, insulated the contacts on the bobbin to avoid shorting, and put tape inside the pickup cover leaving a tab coming out the corner to solder to the copper bass plate. No more mr buzzy.

Can we just send our guitars to you, and you can do it?StrummersOfThunder wrote:Yep you have to ground everything. So for instance in the tele I covered the neck pickup cavity and then ran a ground wire to the neck cavity, and wrapped all the wires running through the cavity linking route with the same copper tape, soldering each end of that tow the tape in each cavity. Eventually joining to the same ground wire to the bridge. I also taped the route where the jack wires go. If you do this, be sure to insulate the jack tip contact so that you don't short it on the copper in the jack route.bbrunskill wrote:so do you just line the cavity on the guitar? do you have to connect it to ground or anytyhing?
It's piss easy.
I'll put some happy snaps up later or tomorrow.

Well worth doing on any guitar really, whether humbuckered or not, always good to shield.

Re: Slug tape
How about a copper bubble that you step into with your guitar. Just need a tiny hole to feed the lead through. Then you don't need to shield individual guitars.

Re: Slug tape
I didn't want to disassemble everything but this gives those of you who have never done this a peek.
Wanna' copper feel?
You can see the grounding wire coming through from the neck cavity shielding. The bridge cavity should ground itself through the bridge plate all right. So you could just earth the neck cavity to the bridge compartment but I was running wires anyway....
