Best Multi Effects for Recording <$600

Post by GrantB »

OK, I avoid anything that does more than one thing simply because I think that it can't do multiple things and be good at all of them - multi effects pedals enter the room please. I have been recording recently and am about to do some more, and there are times when I wish I could model a sound, but simply cannot. I need a multi effects unit (or a modelling amp ;))

What is the best sounding multi effects unit for recording, for less than $600. To help with you respsonses, I'm looking for:

1. Not noisy (hiss)
2. Transparent - no tone sucking compressing monsters here please
3. Must have a wicked overdrive able to emulate a Mesa to best intents
4. Modulation not that important (I have heaps of modulating pedals lying around)
5. Be easy to use. If I have to qualify as a computer tech, I'm screwed.

Or should I just buy a Bottle Rocket?

I assume you have ruled out a Pod? The Vox tonelab is meant to be good but is reportedly lacking in the Recto area.

Cheaper options are the new Boss mini amp or Korg Ampworks unit. These are fantastic units

Sansamps are great too. Either the GT2 etc or Trademark series amps.

Yeah the boss ME 50 looks good kind of half analoge half digital. It has indivdual dials for mid, bass and trebble on each different type of effect. :)
