Stupidly powerful humbucker

Post by Single coil »

I've been on a high gain binge recently.
Forgetting the super distortion and the JB and their contemporaries for a minute, I'm curious to know if there's a [passive] pickup that's just obnoxiously and stupidly powerful. For the bridge of course, to turn any amp into a melting overdriven mess. Or symphony.

Who knows of such a thing existing?

Bonus points for it looking normal.

I like the SD Custom, tight bridge tones without the boomy overtones that you sometimes get on medium output pickups.

I have also had surprisingly good luck with the Ibanez V8 humbucker.

DiMarzio website will tell you the X2N, D Activator-X, or maybe a Super3. Those are all higher output than the Super Dist, although I guess that's not the only factor.

KENT ARMSTRONG® M-BUCKER™ DOUBLE HOT - BLACK W/ BLACK RAILS SKU: WDMB
The new M-Bucker™, formerly known as the Motherbucker®. A wolf in wolf's clothing.
This special Kent Armstrong® designed double dual blade pickup that actually contains four coils in one humbucker. You heard it right... two rail pickups on one humbucker plate. Wired to full capacity, this pickup is one of the loudest humbuckers available today, but it's real strength lies in its incredible variety of wiring configurations. 2 X 4 core leads.

Although this is Kent Armstrong's most versatile and lethal pickup to date, it never loses definition and note separation. Cleans up by rolling down the volume control. We recommend using a WD 1000 (1 meg ohm) volume pot.

CERAMIC / D.C. resistance = 27.5K

I played a Full Shred by SD the other day for the first time. It was in a 7 string. Amazed I have never heard one before. I THINK I like it more than the BKP Painkiller in my other 7. I'm getting one of those soon, it was smooth, yet full of all the good chug.

SD SH8 Invader - not sure if it's stupidly powerful, but it is powerful and I enjoy it both in split and humbucker mode in the bridge.
Likewise DiMarzio Evolutions.

Makes me think back to that old frankenstrat thread. I configured two single coil ceramics in series, the most powerful of all my guitars - too much.

Perhaps might've been best left to the Questions that don't need a whole thread thread.

Knowing me I'll probably go with a set of moderate gain dimarzios, brand loyalty and whatnot, if I end up swapping the things at all. More curious to know the most ridiculous pickup/s available.
