Anyone know where to get pickups repaired?
I've got a set of Harmonic design Z90 humbucker sized p90’s and the neck pickup doesn't seem to have survived crossing the pacific; super weak and thin output.
Anyone know where these sort of things can get repaired?

And you're sure it is wired in phase?
EDIT: Oops, I don't think phasing is the issue here unless in the middle position. I had thought these pups might be two coils per pickup but looks like they are just a single-coil?

Too many guitars, not enough talent.

Yeah, just a big single coil, so methinks it's broken.

Re: Anyone know where to get pickups repaired?
But how would it break, there isn't much to a pickup? I reckon the coil must be ok if you are getting some sound, and the same goes for the wiring. That only leaves the magnets. Potentially they could degauss during transport if near some other magnetic field, but would it be enough to seriously effect the tone? I don't know.
Is it new or used?
Have you checked that the resistance is within spec?

It was used
. Yeah, it's definitely the coil; resistance is 2meg which is a broken coil reading. The wire is extremely fine, it's kinda surprising is doesn't break more often really. Weird that it kinda works huh!

I have had a single coil where a screw drive broke a lot of the wires and it still worked fine...not sure how thoughTmcB wrote:It was used. Re: Anyone know where to get pickups repaired?
A cracked coil wire will read very high, but sound weak and thin. When the cracked wire is still held close together it's like having a tiny capacitor in series with the coil.
There's a strong chance it will cost more to rewind than a used one is worth.

Yeah, I'm feeling I should just give up on fixing this and get a new one. Which sucks.ash wrote:A cracked coil wire will read very high, but sound weak and thin. When the cracked wire is still held close together it's like having a tiny capacitor in series with the coil.

I had Mr Glyn re-wind a pickup that was broke straight out of the packet. It cost about $80 which is worth it if you have your heart set on the pickup you have.
