Modtone Power Plant; AC -> DC converter?

Post by Hamburgla »

As I recall, the AC output on the Modtone Power Plant can be rectified down to DC, with reasonable ampage. Anyone have detail on what the resulting voltage + available amps is? I'm drawing a bit of a blank with my Google-fu.

I'm looking to power a POG2 + Flint (180 + 250mA requirements). Failing that - Anyone have a Cioks DC10 for sale? (Or something with a small number of high-amp outputs...)

All you need to do is link outputs 5,6 & 7 with a daisy chain and you've got 500mA.

The flint takes less than 200 btw.

2x 1000uf + rectifier bridge

9V AC 1300ma in -> 12vdc 650ma out (if I recall correctly on the one I built).

I think Willow13 may have bought my old one?

Cheers Conway. I kinda forgot that 2 of them were 200mA.

Toany - Cheers, but dang. Is that Pigtronix style of powering their pedals (9-18v - voltage just adds headroom) likely to apply to any other pedals?

I gave it a crack - and it works. What a find. Strymon claims 250mA is needed - so here's hoping I don't wind up at a gig one day with 2 flashing red lights (the underpower indicator)...
There are three different power requirements for our pedals: Our smaller pedals (blueSky, Brigadier, El Capistan, Flint, Lex, Ola, and Orbit) require a maximum of 9V DC and a minimum of 250mA current. Our larger pedals (BigSky, Mobius, and TimeLine) require a maximum of 9V DC and a minimum of 300mA current.
(Still keen to know if I can get that AC adaptor useful for future stuff. I'll assume the 12v answer as how-things-is.)

It really depends on the builder and what circuit it is.

If there's a charge pump in there to automatically bump the voltage up, you'll kill it. Most pedals will have marketing guff about how amazing toanz this is, but some like the Klon don't. Don't try with Delays and digi effects unless it explicitly says.

Other than that most drive should take higher voltage as it's generally the caps that will pop if if you go over the voltage, which is why I build I pedals with at least 25v rated caps.
