Gretsch 6120 Bridge Question
Why would one swap out the original bridge on a G6120 guitar (with Bigsby) for a TOM type one?
Is there anything inherently wrong with it?

Re: Gretsch 6120 Bridge Question
intonation maybe? Sometimes these alu bigsby style bridges can sound a bit thin.

yeah intonation, preference, bending/collapsing, lack of a spare?
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Gretsch 6120 Bridge Question
As old Gretsch bridges go, that's nice. Are you using a term? If I remember rightly, some of the older bridges don't have the same radius as the neck--by a wide margin. if that's not a problem, I'd keep it original.

Compton claims their design is superior. Any experience with one? Are they supporting proper intonation?Post by GrantB » Wed Feb 17, 2016 9:24 pm

Yes, the Bigsby works well. I'll check the radius and perhaps try it again instead of the TOM.by olegmcnoleg » Thu Feb 18, 2016 6:27 am

Hell, I may even cut one from a bit of cow bone...

Re: Gretsch 6120 Bridge Question
Compton's do look good, haven't tried though. I've used these Bigsby alu bridges before...I could never get them sounding good for my head-tone. Yet, I've heard sound real good with say a Dynasonic setup and a cranked Fender. Quite percussive and acoustic...to the detriment of sustain and depth.

Re: Gretsch 6120 Bridge Question
I have tried the brass and the aluminium compton.
For the 6120 i'd probabl;y go with what ever matches your hardware, but if yuo can go brass, do. Quite lively, resonant and twangy.

Stainless is a good option too!
