Just put the Nocaster pickup in my Tele. Testing it before reassembly and noticed that the whole guitar is microphonic. It picks up every thing from tapping the body to handling the cable.
Any idea if there's a cure for it or is it just the pickup? Never come across this problem before.
Thanks.
Edit: The only change I've made along the way is to improve the ground on the bridge. I added one with a solder connection rather than the washer / bolt arrangement that was there previously. I haven't shielded the cavity as I thought I would because there's a ground to conductive paint in there already.
Bit of Googling reveals it's not uncommon. Going to look at a few simple tricks before I consider potting it.

Bet it does some cool feedback now though. Always a silver lining
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Well, that's the thing. I decided to string it up anyway and spent a blissful hour beating the shit out of it and my other guitars this afternoon. It sounded great. I suppose I might tire of the extraneous noises but the sound was so good it might be worth living with.Delayman wrote:Bet it does some cool feedback now though. Always a silver lining

I quite like a bit of microphonic pickup action. Played my Corvette like a drum the first time I gigged it (that was before changing the pickup).

Ah, yes. I was going to ask if the answer had something to do with wax.Molly wrote:Going to look at a few simple tricks before I consider potting it.
