I bought my cans of nitro mixed to original DuPont codes from The Spray Store, Christchurch. It's part of the Smits Group and I've ordered the same from another Smits Group outlet in the NI (can't recall which).GrantB wrote:Maybe something old. I have the technical data sheet here somewhere and am looking for it. It gives the actual code for the lacquer.
As it happens, I wouldn't rush to do it again. With patience you can get a mirror shine but it doesn't craze like the old stuff and continues to dry for months on end (in that the thinner continues to evaporate). The mirror-like shine doesn't stay that way for long.
Brand of paint is Lechler.

Re: Refinishing a Strat body
ok, thanks. i do use nitro sourced locally, and have had success in it cracking. It's just getting all the colours I need is the issue. I have to say though, I hate finish work.

I hate it too, and with nitro you need huge patience--lots of thin coats with plenty of drying time between them. I'm happy to pay someone else to do it.

Can I ask what it cost? Did you send just the body or the guitar to be disassembled and reassembled? Seriously considering getting mine done (can't be arsed to do it myself).Conway wrote: Yep, got it back a couple of days ago. Really pleased with the refinishing job, it looks perfect.
Looking forward to the pics.

I'll PM you the cost - don't want to broadcast that, to be fair to the guy who did it.Molly wrote:Can I ask what it cost? Did you send just the body or the guitar to be disassembled and reassembled? I disassembled it and gave him all the parts with a wiring diagram and setup measurements (string/pickup heights, etc). He put it back together after painting. Everything feels and sounds just as it did before.
