Bridgemagic acoustic guitar install

Post by kdawg2a »

I don't know if any of you guys have seen these for sale on Trade Me, they're a bolt in product designed to reduce or remove the bellying that can happen on an acoustic. I've got an old Yamaha FG 200 that cost next to nothing but sounds awesome so I thought it might be worth a go. Here's the first photos....

The strings are back on and she's tuner back up. Here's the action now,

Here's the straight edge again with the sound board under tension,

And here's what the bridge looks like,

The screw is the only visible feature of it. First impressions:
The action is much better and the guitar is easier to play.
No noticeable sound difference.
I'll let it rest for a while and settle then I'll post some more.

Not so much so far. I'm leaving it all to settle over night, then I'll be posting my thoughts tomorrow. I am quite happy so far with the results however.

I made my own bridgemagic version some years ago based on the JLD stuff I had read on the web. Works well.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Ha, yes, why buy it if you can make it yourself for 10 x the cost by spending countless hours in the workshop? Hmm, maybe I should go fishing more often...

I'm happy to report, one week after installation, the guitar is playing beautifully and sounding great. I haven't noticed any change in tone or volume. For the price and the effect on the guitars playability i'd say this is a great product. I would however be a little hesitant putting one into a high end or vintage guitar until i'd explored all other remedial options. I base that solely on the percieved value of those guitars, not the function of this product.
