So can it be moved or is it a "post somewhere else and delete original" affair?

I loved the look of the tele before you changed it... But you know what... I love the look of it even more, after the changes. It looks great!

The white on white?
It had its moments, yeah. I like the slightly darker "rough tuxedo" look. Black pickguard on sunburst is the king of that though.

Changed to 50s style wiring this morning.
Sorted out the whole highs disappearing under volume rolloff thing - Tone control is still bleh.
After a good play with the amp, the ge7, and pickup heights, it's about as good as I can get it without replacing the tone pot push pull thing. I guess the alternative is to whack in one of the pots I've got kicking about, but that'll mean no more coil tap.

Decisions.

Right lads. 3 guesses what I did today.

Image

Took a break from recording for once, and ... Ok, so, the teles new bridge arrived (to cure the whole eating strings thing), so it was going to come apart, and I wanted to adjust the truss too, but some of the frets are pretty drilled so ...

Image

... Obviously I went and bought a thing of stain because that'll help me put a new bridge on and solder in a new push pull cuz the current one is crunchy.
I've always liked the rosewood tele, but I don't think I could rip off the look. I'm going for a dark brown. Not coffee table brown or james may brown, but the kind of worn brown you see on late 70s early 80s 335's and so on.

Rosewood tele for the fuck of it.

Image

Sheet sander made quick ish work of the paint job I did last year. I forgot how heavy I primed it. Eesh. Smelt pretty good though.

Image

And not long after, here we are. Back to natural 3 piece thingy.

Image

... Leaving the side and back stain mostly intact.

Image

Whacked the pickguard on for a laugh.

Image

Image

Actually quite a cool look. Not THE look, but a nice one nonetheless.
Random whore shot.

Image

This isn't coat one. It set pretty quick though.

Image

Colour is hard to catch. It'll look dumb until it's back together anyway but such is life.

Image

Not bad for a $5 test pot of resene dark rimu or whatever it's called.
Still leaving the routes as bare as I can so it can all breathe.

Image

Image

And that's enough of that for now. Let's let it sit.

Image

... So, while that was all drying, I had a party with the neck. Oh my.

Image

I've sure got better at masking. It's still a shit time though, and my lip is all raw from tearing tape.

Image

No inbetween shots because I'm sure we all looked at bg's post documenting proper fret work, so here is the result post- backyard crown.

Image

All polished up with steel wool and buffed with autosol. This is after a level; most of the nasty divots are gone. There are traces of one or two, but they're a damn site better than they were.

Image

Image

I think I'm getting better. Divot pictured here.

Image

So that all happened. I scouring pad'd the neck too, so it's all satin silky smooth now. I will post a reveal once it's all back together.
Did my stint at the cinema, and the stain had set (yikes!) The super fine scouring pad did absolutely fuck all, so I had at it with the green one.

Image

Still nowt, so whacked it on the palm sander and away we went.

Image

... Nope.
So I guess I'll sand it tomorrow. I have some 320 through 1200 so it'll be a fun time.

I went over it all again; I was trying to get away with not doing the sides and back, but no. This stuff runs. So, the back will be done tomorrow too.

Image

Quite a cool effect.

Image

Stay tuned for more shed based mutilation.

Yeah it does now ... it goes on pretty watery but now I think about it it's chunky shit. Still, nothing that can't be cured.

frets looking good :) Can I say that up where the top end gets to close for tape, I just tape over the lot and scalpel whats covering the frets :) It takes a fuck tonne of the pain out of it ;)

In the past if it was on my necks, I never bothered with the tape. You get good at not taking divots out. Hence some of my necks are scarred but that's from earlier practices :)

Or you could always scalpel the remains of the masking tape roll, cut down the centre of the roll 50/50 or 25/75 so you then have a double roll of narrow masking tape or a roll with thinner and extra thin masking tape. #creativecatskinning
Tin arse!!
