Doing car interior today - more guitar stuff as the parts roll in.
I'm the one trying to flog a dead horse with my tele listing - no interest :-(

Your threads are well attended!

I know what all of those things are but I’m not sure what the creator was trying to tell us with that one.

Bits to make the yamaha go aren't here yet, but I did sorta fix the case ... I'll post that later. Number 8 wire as fuck.
Something else rolled into the shed though, so yesterday I pulled it apart (idiot, good job taking before pictures) and today I fuckin got stuck in as.

Image

It's an old sonic branded sort of jazz bass copy, in dinged up, uncared for black metallic ... And as you can see, it's covered in muck of the nth degree.

Image

"made in china" sticker?

Image

No scarf, and the neck is made of a very nice piece of maple. Weird; I remember these being about the 399 mark when they were new (in 2004).

Image

Skunk stripe is well done, and somehow the neck is dinged.

Image

Has a shim here???? Also has 03 at the start of whatever the hell this number is, so probably about an '03 model.

Image

Here's the body with half its guts hangin out. I ended up popping it all out and rewiring half of it but I'll get to that.

Image

I don't know what this was but it took fuelite and meths to get it off... The gunk on here was horrendous.

Image

Nice supermarket scratch here (???) How the fuck do people let their stuff get like this?

Image

Someone kerbed it???

Image

Look at all the shit on the body around the bridge... urf.

Image

More bloody nicks in it

Image

I am not the first to be in here, by the looks of things.

Image

Another teeny wee shim here too. Couldn't see any more numbers.

Image

Bridge guff.

Image

More hardware all covered in fart.

Image

Image

Image

I ended up sanding most of the fretboard yuck off with the scouring pad thing. It worked quite well.

Image

Image

Someone call Ainslie Harriot... Because it's time to oil up.

Image

Got my soft brush on the 'board too, scrubbed the remainder of the shit off, amongst more globules of lemon oil.

Image

This is uhh... This is actually a really nice neck.

Image

Found the silver polish and gave the frets a buff up on the ol' grinder. Shit that worked well.

Image

Image

Pretty sure the last of my lemon oil went into this neck after I fuckin spilt it all the other week, dickhead. Good whacking thing of rosewood on a cheap guitar.
Now back to ... Making it look good.

Image

The quality of wood is on par with my tele.

Image

The girl asked what I was doing, so I sent these.

Image

Image

I think I must've neglected to take pictures of waxing the neck n' shit; the above will be post- polish. The following are post- "final buff".

Image

Look at the sheen!!

Image

Some weird ass impact mark I couldn't quite buff out, but I've minimised it ok.

Image

Found this dudes jacket on the bench. Must've outgrown it in the night.

Image

These pickups have super strong magnets in them. Like, mental strong.

Image

I know, I know - It'll be your turn soon.

Image

I couldn't cut the dings out, so I went for the scouring pad treatment on the body.

Image

Oops ... Dick.

Image

Buffed it and buffed it and still this faggotty RRRRGH fuckup thing was here.

Image

So while I'd basically had enough of that  I went to buffing up the hardware on the grinder - Tuners before and after.

Image

Guess I got carried away and sorted all that out, as well as devising a method to a far more even finish.

Image

WAX ON, BITCHES.

Image

Tuners back on while that's all drying . . . .

Image

Ahh... Fuck. Ok.

Image

The wiring was some weird crap variant of something, so I went OG jazz bass wiring on it. Hopefully my man on the inside comes through with a bunch of caps so I can attempt some weird shit.
Added more grounds and put it all back together.

Image

So it's mostly together - Need to do my old housewife string refresh trick and it should be good to roll by tomorrow evening. Got a fair whack of other shit to do first but nothing extraordinary.

Image

I think the body came up pretty good. Speed knobs added cuz one of the faggy sonic ones fucked off from the grinder and I've got no idea where it went ahahaha

Image

Image

Weird metallic fleck in it.

Image

That's all for now.

cbf posting sonic progress
argued and battled with the wiring fuck knows how many times ... God alone knows why it wouldn't work :problem:
But anyway, it plays, it's done, blah blah blah.

Today was diddle with the santana day.

Image

I guess there had to be a catch that wasn't the lack of a bag or anything. The nut was really poorly cut, and didn't take kindly to the 11s.
Better cover up all the bits I don't want to file. Strip of aluminium under the fretboard side so I don't file the slots too far down too.

Image

This is how bad it was . . .

Image

Why anyone needs to cut slots that deep is beyond me.
Brought the top down a bit and got my little wee files into the slots to round them. Then I uhh, this.

Image

Sand pencil graphite,
collect dust,
dump vaseline on,
MIX.
Apply to nut,
plonk strings in,
remove excess,
tune,
play,
??????????

profit. :D

... And it worked. Huzzah.

Also, some mail turned up.

Image

Argued with that for a while until I remembered you can't series/parallel two pickups off one switch :problem: idiot.
So I did phase reversal instead, and made a bizarre video about it.

The other bits of mail were some speed knobs. I pinched the black ones and whacked them on the sonic bass - Worked real well, leaving the poor santana almost knobless.
I had the old parchment coloured ones off the tele kicking about, so I gave them a go.

Image

Hmm ... Naw. Maybe if they were cream coloured. That'd be cool.
How about . . .

Image

... Yeah, nah, ok. In the no pile.

I settled on these.

Image

So now I have a push pull honky-ass phase switch thing, gold knobbies, a slippery nut oh, my! and a whole bunch of fun coming up.
Enjoying it in standard too, which is kinda weird. I'm a half step down guy. Ahh well.

Now, bonus round.

Jhorner, you fuckin' ripper

Image

Better now? :D

Image

Yeah the ring's cracked. Whatever. It's an old guitar.

Image

I like it. Thank you very much for the thought especially.

Oh, and uhh . . . Some yamaha pictures. It is in my for sale thread at $450.

Image

Image

Image

Salt and pepper bridge :D

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

God it's a stunner ... But it needs to go.

That's all for now, until the next fun wee project comes along.

A bit vanilla. You gave us the headstock change. Now your readership demands more extreme makeovers please.

Waving my dick all over another epiphone lp at the mo, a sunburst one.
Tried to dull the finish like on the goldtop, but it’s covered in fine scratches now :problem:
No cutting compound or metal polish I have will get them out - one assumes I am left only with the solution of wet sanding.

Time to resurrect the thread, cuz I’ve got a bit of a lolworthy project now.

P bass? Sure. But not as we know it.
Popped the strings and bridge off, nek minit

Image

Somehow it’d split completely. Suspect there was a join here cuz I can’t see any impact trauma.

Image

Came with good tuners.

Image

Welp, nuff a that, what’s a bloke guna do about it all ...

Image

... strip it!

Image

Still tossing up what sorta colour to go. May simply be easier to do it all black again cuz I have black paint, but a decent stain with the black hardware could be good too.

Headstock came up easy.

Image

Some niggly bits

Image

Gave this a go to try speed up the process.

Image

... it didn’t work.
Back to heat gun and shitty knife.

Image

That’s as far as I’d got last night. God it was hot work. Should be able to strip off the smaller bit tonight.

I figure it’s probably a good move to glue it back together BEFORE I sand it for finishing.

It’s still covered in this weird primer kinda shit - it’ll come off with the sander once I’ve glued it proper.
