Another damn “why won’t this work” post
Today on “why the fuck won’t you work?”, we have generic HH wiring (2 volume, 2 tone, 3 way) along with two DPDT switches.
One is for coil split/tap/bs, and the other is for phase reversal.
When I got to the guitar, it was pretty much a wreck.
New electronics all round excluding pickups and the 3 way.
I followed the original wiring and drew a basic as fuck diagram and here it is.
Left DPDT is for coil whatever.
Right DPDT (with the green wire) is for phase reversal/phase out/peter green.
Someone please point out what I’ve got wrong, because:
Tone pots do nothing,
Neck volume stops in the middle and does something else for the rest of the turn (coil tap???),
DPDT switches are about as functional as the ira.

Update:
I went on the internet and I found this.
Looks like there are bits missing.
Will rewire and report back.

God doesn't want you to split humbuckers because they sound shit when you do that and there's a huge volume drop anyway.Single coil wrote:Followed diagram to the letter

Wire it like a normal person in a normal way so it works normally.

This is how it rolled out the factory.
I’ve tried to restore this thing to playing condition - some hardware needed replacing too, so it quickly became a restomod.
I believe the Japanese home market models had push pulls rather than the separate dpdts.
Also don’t be silly, god’s not real.
Urf.

Nah caps should be good, careful with those since I learned you can in fact cook them. Pots should be alright but I’ve got a bunch of spares ... I think one is on the piss, but that doesn’t explain the lack of a neck pickup.SimpleSi wrote:Did you over heat your cap. Or pots.

Just chuckin' this out there but are all the earths good and are you sure there isn't a short against screening paint or some such? Had just that problem with a student's Epiphone.
I know you just read that and thought: "FFS... Yes, I checked all that shit."

Daigram - perfect
Your drawing - too much is wrong, don't know where to start (looks like previous owner did not know how to wire things)
Humbuckers need to have 4 wires plus shield.
Perhaps the multitude of colours is playing havoc with your wiring things up?

When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

I own literally 6 pairs of humbuckers that are 3 wires .. shield, red and white. Red is usually hotjvpp wrote: Humbuckers need to have 4 wires plus shield.

Yes you are correct. But James is trying to coil split so each individual coil needs its wires to be brought out. So he needs 4 + shield. If he hasn't got that it wont work. Most DiMarzios humbuckers are 4 wire now plus many others.willow13 wrote:I own literally 6 pairs of humbuckers that are 3 wires .. shield, red and white. Red is hot, white is split, bare is ground.
Green wire (bridge only) is for phase.
Don’t ask why one has more wires than the other. This is how it was built.
