Professional guitar refinishing?

Post by Darth Sabbathi »

Any recommendations for a professional refinish?

About the only lead I've found is Andries from the Fret Shop. He seems to have a good rep, but is in Auckland and I am not... Shipping could be an option, but if there was anyone closer to Wellington, that would be preferable.

Saw that FB post but i can't find it... did Kerry Truscott (te chaoz guitars guy) chime in at all?

Dunno if he does his own finishing or shops it out.

Other options if you get no luck - autobody shops, and also look into getting it wrapped instead of painted (although dunno what the "feel" will be like)

Kerry did chip in, but went quiet after I explained I was looking for a metallic finish on a vintage guitar with a set neck....

Doesn't seem to be a great deal of enthusiasm for doing metallic finishes! Andries from the Fret Shop said he might help me out in a couple of months if I can't find anyone else. Mr Glyn suggested the guy from G-Spot Guitars - anyone dealt with them?

Probably the set neck and vintage bit that does it lol. Bolt ons are loads easier to refinish by design. I’ve done the top on a set neck once and that was ... something.

Andries is pretty good. I would use him if I wanted to refinish a guitar. But then I am in Auckland which makes it easier.
