Gretsch Power Jet mud switch
I have a gretsch powerjet that I have modded a bit. Changed bridge, replaced the tv jones powertrons and added a treble bleed. Now my question is the mud switch. Sometimes I hit it accidentaly and all of a sudden inthe middle of the song my tone changes, alot! Does anyone of you tried to bypass it?

A quick fix is to unscrew the tip

Re: Gretsch Power Jet mud switch
Malcolm Young, Brian setzer and others just push the switch inside.
I agree the switch is useless...maybe just cut the wire and be done? I never wired mine up - it’s a dummy mud switch (on the jet).

It’s a three way switch that lets you choose between 2 different capacitors or straight through. The settings are: Muddy/Bypass/Muddier.sirvill wrote:What does it do? Add a massive capacitor/resistor/whatever or something?
There are mods out there for subbing in different cap values, but probably only worth bothering on models that don’t have a tone control (like my Anniversary).

Re: Gretsch Power Jet mud switch
This reminds me - you can of course put a whole new harness in there that has two volumes in the normal spot, and the master volume becomes the master tone. My old Jet has four pots - master in normal spot, then vol, vol, tone...the tone used to be the active boost but that had self destructed so I removed it.bender wrote:It’s a three way switch that lets you choose between 2 different capacitors or straight through. I had gretsch (with dynas) that had the 4 knobs which I find more suitable for me.GrantB wrote:This reminds me - you can of course put a whole new harness in there that has two volumes in the normal spot, and the master volume becomes the master tone. I look around for a harness that will make the master a tone knob.

Who uses the mud switch anyway? Just curious.

I do - aka prune juice. It works wonders, like hitting a switch.imarco wrote:Who uses the mud switch anyway? Just curious.
