Post by imarco »

Hello! I have another question about pups. I find my 335 pups hot. I need something cleaner. Any suggestions?

Seth Lovers, had them in my 339 and they were great in a hollow body.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Dimarzio 36 are actually really rude pickups.
Fucking great but if you’re finding 57s too hot they’re a side step.

Have you tried dropping them down, e.g. flat with the mounting rings?

That's quite a gentle humbucker--though quite a round, full tone. Which part of the tone spectrum are you finding is too much? All of it, or just a region?

Turn the drive down on your amps/pedals, make sure the pickups are not set too high. You could try burstbuckers I suppose--they will remove a bit of the mids.

You can get humbuckers as low as 6k (such as Gibson mini-humbuckers), but you would lose some warmth.

Agree. I found 57's to be pretty low-medium output. Lowering the pickup height worked well for me when I wanted to let the amp do the driving work.
