Talk me down!
Problem is, I recently realised I see glossy finishes as a barrier between the instrument and me. It's a feel thing, not a rational thing.
So the urge to strip it has returned. :
Tell me that G&L fully understand the science of finishes and wouldn't choke their home turf guitars for cosmetic reasons
Tell me that consequentally, stripping it would destroy the value of an American made axe without adding any real sonic benefits.
Tell me something...
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Talk me down!
Why not just take the shine off the finish with one of those synthetic steel wool pads?

It's your guitar, do what the hell you like with it.
However, the only way to not lose value would be to get a pro-level refinish in nitro.

I think the essence of this question is whether the refinish would yeild any real benefits.olegmcnoleg wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 6:29 pm It's your guitar, do what the hell you like with it.

Re: Talk me down!
It will certainly yield results, whether they are the ones you want is another matter. There may be a lovely twelvety piece body under that lovely 5mm thick poly finish.Slowy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 6:36 pmI think the essence of this question is whether the refinish would yeild any real benefits.olegmcnoleg wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 6:29 pm It's your guitar, do what the hell you like with it.

At the end of the cliche, if you want to do it then do it. We'll just laugh at the outcome if its not a good one.
