Routing out existing bindings

I am considering replacing some binding on Artist DIY LP Kit before doing anything else . The binding is white and I want to replace it with black.
I have a router cutter set up to do the job but I am worried that it might not handle the cutting or go bad on me ? Has anyone done this before ?

It'd be easier to mask off all but the binding, spray it black, remove the tape, clean up the lines, the spray a couple of coats of clear.

Thanks I will consider that . I guess I just wanted use the new binding.

I’d try and pull it off first. Sometimes that glue is not that good

You might find you can pull an edge away and then you could use some dental floss to act like a saw to remove it.

Colour it in with a sharpie.

Bit of heat to soften the glue and a craft knife blade... or even a kitchen knife. Work your way around easing it off.

This is less risk than a trim router.

Thank you all . I am now thinking maybe I will try first to remove and save the white binding, then route deeper and end up installing both the black and white bindings together ?

Getting jiggy with it on that one.

Check the replacement or overlay binding against the existing to see what sort of bevel you will need to perform to match it up to determine the practicality of this move.

Just gonna say I think that is a massive job that will be way harder than you expect. I'd be prepared to put in lots of hours and lots more money than the guitar is worth. Good luck....

Buy more guitars, do less with them.
