Love it CD, looks seriously hot.
IMO if you are planning on going harder with the Realtone thing, you need your own headstock. Personally I wonder about the name "Realtone" as a brand too - if you're planning on doing it for the long haul, isn't it worth building up your own name rather than doing a kiwi made copy of a well known US manufacturer?
Kudos on this gat anyway, I'd love to play it through a big fuck off Marshall.

I totally agree, but this is a real sticking point. In my opinion, the strat headstocks are hard to beat, and is ingrained into the psyche as the benchmark. A lot of different designs can end up looking 'inferior' if not careful.sambrowne wrote:IMO if you are planning on going harder with the Realtone thing, you need your own headstock.
not sure i follow you on this one. I did check for other same name brands when choosing the business and product line name (and trademarking it), and found none... are you confusing with Fulltone pedals, or maybe Truetone music in the US?sambrowne wrote:Personally I wonder about the name "Realtone" as a brand too - if you're planning on doing it for the long haul, isn't it worth building up your own name rather than doing a kiwi made copy of a well known US manufacturer?
what we've got here is failure to communicate... some men you just can't reach
Thats pretty cool CD, dig the colour and finish.
I would say it needs a pickguard, but I'm trying to imagine one on it and I think its better without.
I like to have a vol for each pickup, but MUST have a tone for each pickup.
Nothing a drill and 10 mins couldnt solve
Good work though, real (no pun intended) keen to see what else you come up with.

CD - No I don't mean the actual word(s) Realtone is a copy, but rather that when I read it, it comes through to me as a "real" copy of the "tone" of Fender. i.e. Something like "Crush" (as a totally random example) or your real name (first and last) would give your instruments' brand a lot more weight than Realtone. To me, Realtone sounds like a cheap instrument that you get when you're starting out, even though I'm SURE they are amazing instruments.
That's just my opinion - what do others think? Does calling the guitars Realtone cheapen the brand or is it as good a name as say Gibson or Paul Reed Smith (obviously acocunting for the fact that those brands are strong and well established - I'm tlaking about potential here).

hmmmm..... I can see where you're coming from but 'Realtone' doesn't do that for me. Perhaps you're thinking more of the 'Silvertone' cheapy brand relationship?
I do think, however, that the brand could be improved with better decals or inlays - something CD himself knows about but the cost to have water decals manufactured and then clearcoated on the headstocks is pretty much prohibitive at this stage.

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.
