Hey all, I'm not often one to shout about a company/service, but I just had a rather eerie experience.
http://nz.farnell.com/
At about 3pm yesterday I called up these guys to ask about fuses, I was put through to the warehouse in Oz, the guy told me what I needed, I ordered them online, and they arrived today.
From Australia!
It was only ten fuses, so a small order by their standards I'd say, but they were really helpful and friendly. Everything seemed a reasonable price, and unlike Dick Smiths, they knew what they were talking about.
So yeah, it was awesome. I definitely recommend them for all the pedal/amp/guitar building stuff. It's about $10 courier from Oz for small loads of stuff, and you do have to buy ten at a time for small items, but who cares! Much, much less hassle than Dick Smiths, Surplustronics and that weird radio spares place on Upper Queen St.
All your gizmos and whazzijigs.

No, just a really odd younger dude and his dogs. How the hell does it stay in business? You get to see a glimpse of the sign and front door on the TV2 promo ad with that Quincy Conserve song.dayl wrote:I Koooooww..! is that old boy still working there? how about the sechand store next to it?Pakehendrix wrote:that weird radio spares place on Upper Queen St.

I was all set to order from them when i noticed that the exchange rate had bombed again (thanks Obama and your stupid inauguration bringing hope to your nation's economy!).rocklander wrote:http://www.futurlec.com.au equally as good (IME) and only AUD$6 postage to NZ..

Now that I see there is an Aussie version, I might send an order through this weekend. I'm planning on getting the bits for about ten pedal projects all at once.

I think they owned both of those shops, the sec hand store was weird, around 4 - 5 years back when I was living in upper queen I was walking past and there was all this random junker crap on the pavement outside with a bunch of floppy discs of old games, It looked like they were being turfed no order to them whatsoever, I grabbed a couple of games and went to walk off and this crazy dude came running out and was like 'WTF are you doing!' I said that I though they were being trashed and he got all offended and told me to put them back..... I just couldn't help but crack up laughing right then an there and all the way home.
Both those places were weird and had a weird vibe to them.
I think they are run by the Wilberforces.

Backing up to the oldest cemetry in town is probably messing with the vibes...
I get a wierd Masonic signal off those buildings too. Like one used to be a secret lodge for devillish rituals or something.

I've never ordered from Farnell, but I remember their huge phonebook sized (Auckland phonebook sized) catalogues from a previous job. They sure do have all kinds of crap on offer!
